Surviving Minnesota!

My flock is in an unheated coop and they are doing just fine. Tips about keeping moisture down are spot on, but other than that be sure they have plenty of feed to keep their caloric intake up to keep them warm. Water access is important as they wont eat if they can't drink. I give extra whole corn right now as I have heard that helps them stay warm

I do the same, I just bought 100# of corn and 100# of BOSS to help keep calorie intake high, I do not worry about the protein as much this time of year or the "harmful" affects of corn.

You will see that as a trend around here

our chickens are important to us!
Another reason I'm glad I found this thread!

I picked 26 frozen eggs yesterday. A product of us being gone all day.
Did you know if eggs are just getting to frozen and the shells haven't cracked yet, they crackle when you pick them up. I've never seen anything like that before. The sound is unique. The eggs were all slushy. The dogs got a few the rest we will eat and may scramble and feed back tonight. Especially if tonight's eggs are frozen too. It got up to 2 here today and spat a dusting of snow so we may be ok since we won't be gone late tonight
