Back in..

JJ is the godfather of my Birds, Ethel is the godmother and that was reinforced today. Remember I said I picked Ethel off the roost. Well, that was a bad move it ticked her off.

When I went back outside she was back up there. She looked down at me and gave me a dirty look that said "You better leave me up here, Bellybutton!"

Of course I did. I checked for eggs no eggs in the layers.

I then went to Bert Junior's girls. One egg in the nest! BTW those CX's lay huge eggs. They are averaging 2.35 ounces! I now have 4 toads to go into the incubator..

I put the CX egg into the carton and went to check the Creamettes. All the Creamettes were on the roosts. There were two shiny diamond encrusted eggs in the nest boxes. I picked them up and placed them in the carton but had not closed it yet..

I have a double man door on the creamette coops so they cannot esc ape to the outside. I failed to close the outside man door. My pup decided to see what was going in inside the coop and pushed the second door open with her nose. We all know what meek mild sweet demeanors the Creamettes have. This was enough to cause one to fly off the roost. Claws first into my face, then slide down my face drawing blood the whole way.

It then flew into my hand knocking the two diamond encrusted eggs to the floor cracking them into little pieces. She then flew back up to her roost. I was sure I heard her say " that is from Ethel"....

I am now afraid to go into the coops.


When I got into the house, my DW asked me what happened to me, when I told her I was attacked by a creamette she laughed at me. But she did dab the blood off my face.

DId the toad egg survive???

1. Rhetts, you need to get a Moocall Calving Sensor or two. Then you can be alerted within an hour of when your cows will calve.

2. Ralphie, you have me beat on the generations in residence thing. I am only a fourth generation resident of NE Minnesota. My ancestors were among the pioneers to settle Carlton County. One fact of note is that my Great Grandfather was killed and partially eaten by a bear.

3. Bogtown, is your thinking related to a younger male husband/companion due to concern that as the current model ages he may be unable to keep up some of his husbandly duties?

A tail mounted birthing sensor? Now i really have seen it all!

@Bogtown Chick I fed no scratch and only cob corn this morning and they ate most of their layer ration today, so i think they were playing me everyone seems to be doing well and hanging in there. My heated dog bowls are struggling a bit with this cold of weather with a thick layer of ice on top when i go out there. in the AM and after work. Easy to break out though. I am impressed with the durability of the bowls as i bang on them to get the ice out. having the thawed water at the bottom of the bowl probably helps it pop out. The girls were very thirsty today and one even hopped into the bowl while i was filling it up. i had to snag her and dry her in fear of her getting chilled. silly girl!

My only backup is to go back to rubber hog pans, so hopefully the warm up happens soon.

Kloppers the toad egg did survive. I have 4 toads eggs to go in on Saturday. The size of them is amazing!

1. Rhetts, you need to get a Moocall Calving Sensor or two. Then you can be alerted within an hour of when your cows will calve.

I had to look that up. Wow, they really do think of everything now don't they! If only it wasn't so expensive. LOL!

We do actually have more action tonight. The girl with the undercarriage shots I previously posted is majorly swollen on her backside (you can see it when her tail is hanging normally)and she has more mucus coming forth. Bagging up?? I don't know. She is slightly bigger in the udder but NOTHING like what is shown on Youtube. But every cow is different right? maybe she is nearly bagged? or maybe she is light years away. In any case we are going out at about 10pm to check on her. I think this calls for rock paper scissors on who gets to pull the first all nighter. NOT ME!
