Depending on what he looks like, I could breed him to the EE's if I decide to get rid of Sven. Sven being Ole's son could get on my nerves someday and find himself either moving or occupying a stew pot himself. The thing he has going for him is that Blue Tail. I just love it.

Time will tell..

I need to get back outside I came in for my lunch.. TTYAL

Okay. I understand now. Sorry I was so dense on that.

SO an EE with a Rainbow to give him the barring and size. , The EE bringing the pea comb, dark color and dark legs. So what I thought was BA was actually the EE coloring ending up dark/black for some reason.. That makes good sense. Does the blue come from a double recessive or a recessive failure to express gene?

Screwing up the recessive with a dominant from the Rainbow could make him black if that is the case....couldn't it?

That also explains the white primaries, which made no sense if he had BA in him.
The white primaries are extended black barred rock and BA both have that chick color . Blue is a dominate so 1 copy makes blue and 2 copies make splash . Self blue (lavender) is recessive . Rainbow could provide barring but extended. black IDK in that pairing how that could happen . Still thinking . Makes my head hurt or maybe that is the wife today . She insisted we sort my shirts in the closet . Hmmm some shrank or I got plump .

Water softener water is really high in sodium--and you can't filter the sodium out with kitchen filters .(I really researched this because of my mom's high blood pressure.) You may have hit the nail on the head with this thought.

for the water, get a gallon jug and a horizontal nipple, or hang a bottle with a vertical nipple, no poo in the water. now as for poo being everywhere else, nothing you can do

if they are a couple of weeks old, put pine flakes in their that will help, keep it cleaner and dry the poo out a bit till you can get to it to clean it. some people use sand in the brooder? I haven't, but some do to keep it cleaner.

coffee, sorry the chicks are such a PITA.

I use Adult Bed Pads under mine and change them once a day. It absorbs and is not hard to do. I change water once a day and add feed once a day. You just need to have big enough waterers and feeders to get through the day. Mine just make contented little chick noises. Once in a while one will squawk while they are playing but that is cute.

About big enough to be outside, The one that escaped into the shed last night, has been found. He was outside this afternoon about 5 pm by the CLB Cafeteria. I went in and got a net and captured him. He is back in the stock tank. He is a month old today. I am guessing they can handle 20 degree nights with no heat source at a month.

I moved the Creamettes into breeding pens today so I can use the CLB coop and run for turkey breeding pens.

I have to run,,,bbl.

Can't decide what eggs were from the rainbows today. They are all nondescript besides one much larger lighter tan egg. Plus only 8 eggs from 15 hens in the coop so may they took the day off.
