Surviving Minnesota!

Good day to you all.
I moved the Cochins to a new outdoor pen that they can be in all day. Its a grass cage with chicken wire over it, and a has a protected are on one end, hopefully I can make it into a chick brooder once the Cochins move out.

We got 1 1/2 gallons out of Dakota today thanks to the milker we got since her teets are so small and it takes over an hour to get one gallon out of her if you're lucky

Morning BC.... Why is my chick cam offline?

I got a green screen when I looked in.... I know you can fix this for me..

I'm not sure what happened. If my teacher friend had to shut it off for just a bit when you were looking but I found it up not long ago....and a darling!! Blue Silkie looking right at me. OMGosh that little black face. Man. I wish I didn't have eagles and hawks that would pick off those crested birds. I would so take one. I have Dixie...but her Crest is Free-Rangeable.

I spent a good portion of my lunch break talking with realtors.  Our tenants move out at the end of the month and we are ready to sell property. It is amazing the vastly varying different personality styles I have talked to. I don't have any hard numbers from anyone but I already have a good idea of who we are going to use as she was definitely the best person to deal with. Short of her asking for 10% commission I think she will be the one.

I should have a nice chunk of change to spend on chickens after this is over hehehe

We are getting a cold snap Saturday morning. Like temps dropping to freezing or below. I've beefed up the nest with more straw for Dixie. Only problem is if she broody poops in it. Straw is so much harder to get it all out.

I have a plucker. but for just 12 birds I would do them by hand, well maybe not, that is on the edge of making the clean up of the plucker worth it. Cleaning them .... well you know.... If they are CX's the feathers will almost fall out if you dunk in the hot water then into cold so the skin fixes. Might take two dunks, I learned the hard way a cold water dunk does wonder. It stops the skin from ripping and when you pull you get all feathers...

Also if you do not want my little one the Hardware Store in Zimmerman has a Large one they rent. I have no idea how much it is though.
So your coming over here to do my 12 birds by hand? is that how i am reading that? lol j/k i may borrow yours or rent it or whatever. We may just try hand plucking this time and if its to much, takes to long...or whatever i will borrow yours next time. Or rent the one in Zimmerman. I thought you said you have a "harvesting" party each year where a bunch of people get together and take care of their chickens. Are you doing that this year? and when if so?? thanks for the answers... :)

I am (read this as "judy is ) leaning against one this year. I have so many Creamers, BA roos and other roosters to make soup out of I doubt I will get any CX's this year.

BUT I did see a plucker at the fleetfarm in St Cloud that caught me eye...A barrel type..

I told you I put "port holes" in my one 1202. Here are the pictures of what I saw through it this after noon. Forgive the duct tape. It was a fast job and I did not want to shut the machine down or anyone to get cut on the glass, so duct tape it is for now.

The wire is to keep chicks from falling to the bottom level. I used a grill cover thingy as the OSHA approved safety rail.

This sounds crazy but I swear my momma hen waits until I show up with fresh water, food, or treats and then she poops because she knows I clean it up!! I do use the shavings as it's easier to clean poop out.
but the shavings get scratched around, are messy they soak up the water... I kind of wish I would have bought the puppy pads.
