Surviving Minnesota!

2X  on this,  I made my own cone out of a 5 gallon plastic bucket. Cut the bottom off and made a V cut out of the sides , wrapped it together and riveted it. Works great. I have it hanging in a tree as a warning to nay miss behaving birds.

With just one bird I would skin it, less work and mess.

×3 on the cone and skinning process. I cut a hole in a mop bucket works great for cone and easily hangs from tree.

Edited because I can't spell skinning

Good luck!

I lost one of my Blue Cochins to a fox.....

now I have to keep them all locked in the run all day while I am at work. Everyone around here says I have to kill the fox or I will never get rid of him. I don't want to kill the fox and I don't want to lose anymore chickens. I am now dumping all our dog poop on the outside of our hotwire in an attempt to scare him away
Sorry for your loss

Quote: I get a pump spray bottle, you can take the spray part off if you want, I do, then did a q-tip in sometimes if it is just a small area, I also poured some in a small glass bottle for future use

I finished Ed's new shack, I made a little bigger pen, for him, but I think I made it too big,

It is 4x8 or 32 square ft for 3 birds. I made it 4 ft tall, I should have stayed at 3ft.

However, the high ceiling does seem to make Ed happier. I put him in the cage first, then the girls. He made moves on the first girl, dropped his wing and I thought he would make me some babies. BUT the hen refused his advances so he stopped trying. Ed needs to learn to not take No as an answer.

Here are some pictures of Ed and his girls. The color stinks on the pictures he is not as dark as he looks.

Below is the roll-away nest box. I have cardboard around it to try and darken it for the girls.

And below here is the "egg Chute" Where if this works right I will harvest fertilized PC eggs,

And this is the entire cage. it is on a stand so I can sweep and clean under it.
Wow, Nice Ralphie! When are you going to come over and build me some cages? I need more chickens...

Hmm I agree with the Nice cages. Maybe I could clean his coop in exchange for a couple of nice cages. Hmmmm

Got some Koop Klean today at the Farm Elevator (friendly place) in Clear Water, MN. Expensive. $17.50 a bag - which is bout the size of an 8 lb bag of pine shavings. Put it down was soon as I returned and poof! within five minutes the smell are all gone. Bird loving it. Will let you know when it turns cold again how it worked out in this warm weather.
