Surviving Minnesota!

Haha Ralphie! I don't have much use for extra cockerels. My kid probably goes to kindergarten and says "Mommy says the boys are no good and bonks them over the head". I raise just a few of the top males to maturity and the rest usually hit the burn barrel long before that. I do expect a hug in New Ulm again...they seem to bring a lot of good luck. I really don't need anything, but I'm too nosy to not go and see what is there for pigeons. I'm a little leery since they won't name this 'breeder' that they are dispersing of his flock of over 500 birds of that many breeds. I have no problem spending a lot of money on good birds from reliable sources. If its just junk they picked up at shows down south and are trying to flip them for more money, then I have no interest. I'm probably not bringing anything to sell either. For the few birds I have in my growout pens so far, I'm not going through the hassle of sorting everything just to sell very little there. Saving up for the huge Waverly swap in April! The only thing I could really use is a few good quality black Muscovy hens.

Tomorrow I start the lovely task of putting all new small wire mesh on all my coops in the barn. Absolutely nothing has gotten rid of those dang starlings so far. I don't think 200' of 4' long wire is going to be enough.

Putting together a grow out pen.4 foot wide by 8 feet long by 3 feet tall, one would've thought I was asking the world of said spouse to put a hinged lid on it. I wish he could just see what I'm envisioning. Life would be so much easier.

Here is q picture of Holm's new chicks..Before he even gets them. They are travelling first class Pony express. They get the luxury of being held in the box on a lap the whole way.
I have a better idea, head towards the border instead.... Put the chicks down behind a tree and drive away quickly....

After Motherofplenty left here, I went and picked up 3 scoop shovels off Craigslist. These are 12 gauge aluminum so plenty heavy.

I figure in fairness to all, I will not make the first three registrants to the spring Mucking Class bring shovels they can use these three!

They still will be responsible for tuition though.
