I'm envious of the 3-4 eggs a week that you guys get!
That quote from Pine Hill Silkies was pretty generous. I WISH mine matured that young, most of the time I'm first able to sex the black or whites at 5-8 months of age. I usually first get eggs out of them at 10-18 months old. 30-60 eggs a year is way too high. Here's a good example: I have 12 buffs in my breeder pen and I have gotten 2 , yes 2 total eggs from them in all of 2017 amd neither was fertile. My blacks consist of 24 breeders. Today I got 2 eggs and yesterday none. I thought I was doing good with 2! My white pen has 12 breeders and I might get 1 egg a week total from them. My partridge has 12 birds and I got up to 4 eggs a day earlier this spring and now nothing at all. Broodiness is highly contagious with them. 1 gal takes over a nest box and pretty soon 3 more crowd in. Next day that whole variety is done and they are spreading word to next pen. I have about 2 dozen babies in the growout pens over 3 weeks old. Out of those 24, 8 have dq's and have to be sold as pets and even more are definite cockerels so far.
