Surviving Minnesota!

They hate the cold as much as I do.

I accomplished chicken work today!!!
Welcome back Ralphie. Nothing like chickens and chicken poop to pop the bubble of political life.

Sounds like Buckeyes are proliferating the Gopher State. Nettie would be proud of you all.

I had leftover ...tough.. Round Steak roast, got cubed up and taken to the run. They love their meat bits! I really really like having just the 7 birds. They also got treated some greens and such.

I also got a ton of squash from FIL...too much for us to all eat. I have taken to chucking 3-4 at a time out on the fungi covered lawn for the live venison that torments the yellow lab in the house. It should entertain everybody while we work and go to school during the day. I wish I had a house video camera watching it all. The deer have been pawing up the grass right next to the deck...I wonder if there was some grain the chickens missed there....

Hello Jerryse, erli, Ed, Holms, MCM, Camboy, Violinplayer, and all my lovely Minnesotans (at heart). What are you and your chickens up to?! Let's get this thread rolling again! We need @lvie back too!

I have not been on for several days due to preparation and holding the Northern Lights Seminar and Auction. The event was a success and fun.
We had some conflicts with similar events in the state and Midwest, but our event and auction were well attended. The high selling bird went for $2,400.00 to a man who flew in from Maryland.
The Buckeye's have become a favorite breed for me in part due to their temperament, but they also are good meaty birds which makes them good table fare. Egg laying has been very good with mine, and they are winter hardy without comb frostbite issues.
Glad to see posts from Sir Ralphie. As I have written previously, politics is a dirty ugly business. A haven for accomplished con artists !

I loved my buckeyes. Best table birds I have ever raised and for some reason they had some much more flavor to them than my other DP birds.

Al Christel told me that some of those birds sold a lot. I was gonna maybe stop by the show as there were some Pomeranian Pouters for sale but the seller told me he thought it was 2 males and a maybe. I have a few breeds left on my want list like Archangels, Modenas, Damascenes and Maybe some Voorburg Pouters.. I still have two empty buildings lol

Holms, you may be referring to the show in Hutchinson the dame day. The only Pouters at our event were a pair of Horseman's which was a raffle prize. Only racing pigeons in the auction.
I am down to two Damascenes but am looking for another pair or two.
I have thought about the Trumpeters from time to time, but have held off on acquiring any.
If I were to add more breeds would likely be Hamburg Stickens or Egyptian Swifts ? Both are difficult to find in quality stock.
