Suspect Roo #2

Hey everyone! New chicken mom here starting with our flock of 8.

We just found out one of our Rhode Island Reds is a cockerel and I suspect another one is too. We got all 8 at Tractor Supply — 6 were sold as pullets and we took a gamble on what we THOUGHT were two straight run silver laced wyandottes. Well I was wrong—I now believe we were sold a wyandotte and also a light brahma (suspect Roo #2)

We aren't allowed any roosters in our town under 5 acres, so these guys will have to be re-homed.

What do you think?? Do I have the breed right? Is Waffles a cockerel? He's mammoth compared to my other pullets. We've had them all for about 4.5 weeks, but I think he might even be older than that...

Behavior wise, he's a little standoff-ish and he cannot handle being separated from the flock. He'll immediately start chirping very VERY loudly...

I was afraid of that... Thanks for putting my suspicions to rest! We'll rehome Waffles when we rehome Mando (RIR).

Would my RIR still bite him on the neck if Waffles is a cockerel? I thought that was behavior reserved for a hen?

Yes he will. The RIR is showing dominance.
