Sussex, Barnevelders, Silkies... My Breeding Thread.

Is a frizzle a breed or feather type/mutation?
Technically, both. Here in Aus there is a Frizzle breed. I am stilling trying to figure out what exactly it is though...
And Frizzle is also the feather mutation. Several breeds have Frizzle as an accepted variety such as Polish, cochin/pekin and Japanese bantams.

Growing :love

The seven silkie eggs will be due in the next couple days, all were alive the last time I candled.

My silkies/showgirls.
These guys are my colour genetics project. The goal is Calico Splash :)
My silkie colour identification is poor so if I mislabel one of them...
Barda, Blue Silver Partridge.

Two of my current chicks I'm going to be holding on to. A Blue partridge cockerel and another black pullet. Both showgirls.

I also have a bunch of mixed colour chicks currently, that a lot I will be growing out.
And I may be setting some more silkie eggs soon...
Silkie updates...
I lost Jasmine, the Blue Partridge, I still have no idea how or why...
Ghost, Britta, and Sky have been throwing single combs. I'm unsure if it's one or both of the hens, but it's definitely Ghost so I will likely no longer be keeping him. I do have a bunch of splash chicks I may keep a few of and test breed for single comb so I don't have to lose my splashes. I may also have to test breed Barda for single comb as both boys came from the same place.
I'm loving my showgirl cockerel and if I don't keep Ghost he may very well become a permanent resident instead of the temporary one he was supposed to be 😅

Two of the youngest chicks. I'm really disappointed with these two as I LOVE their colours but one is looking like a rooster and developed wry neck which I couldn't correct. The other is one of those lovely single combs

Updates. I had the cull one of my Sussex hens due to having Canker :( Still hoping no one else has it.
I finally got a nice photo of at least one of my Barnie girls.

The youngest silkies.
The wry neck cockerel seems completely fine now, and I'm actually considering keeping him (last picture is him).

Awww little fluffies 🥺🥲

Making some changes with my silkies. Planning on selling Barda and Ghost, so the two normal silkie roos. Lief Jr. and the colourful cockerel will be staying in their places. Which will give me one normal silkie, one showgirl and one stripper breeding roos.

Planning on selling Sky and Britta at some point, the black and the grey hen. Which will leave me with 2 normal silkie hens and 2 showgirl hens/pullets. I guess I will be needing more hens for my boys :p

The colorful male is a very good choice. Very stunning.

What hens are you going to put him with?

Not sure yet. I need to try and remind myself who his parents are 😭 He's the best choice to put with the showgirls looking at NN genetics but colourwise they're only black and I want the colour...
