Swedish Flower Hen Thread

I will let you know if I get a 3:5 split either way... I would be happy with three hens to add some youth to our aging flock.

I have had the same problem with wood shavings in the past and now don't put it out for that reason. I give them some straw to scratch around in and old leafs etc.

You should get some good hens from 12 chicks. Look forward to seeing the photos.

It was hard to get pics of the chicks because they are so active! Also, they kept coming up and trying to peck the phone. 😂Here’s a few pics anyway. I have 5 black & white ones, 5 brown with red heads, 1 white & 1 blue.

The blue one looks crested to me.

Wow, they look amazing. The blue one especially, what colour will it be as an adult?

How are your chicks doing? Mine are 4 weeks old now. I think I have 8 cockerels & 4 pullets, not a great ratio but could be worse! I have been keeping them in the shed at night but yesterday morning I found 2 of them had rat bites! Sprayed them with the blue stuff & they are sleeping in the house now until they can move to the coop. They are all gorgeous, especially the blue chick. He is coming in beige, white, blue & black. Is this what they call snoleopard I wonder? I will post a pic of him but he was one of the ones bitten by the rats (of course) so don’t mind the blue spots!

Ok here are a few of the 4 week olds. Please excuse the dirty wood shavings that need to be changed.
The blue chick (snoleopard?) It’s hard to tell his color from the pics, also he blends in with the wall, but his back is coming in beige and his chest is coming in white.

I will have to get some individual close-ups of our six. I hatched 8 out of 8 eggs I had shipped that I found on EBay - 2 died at about 3 weeks of age, and 3 are turning into roosters, so we will end up with 3 pullets. Dottie is one, she's the first picture. She looks to be a soft grey with black outlining her feathers. Bitey is a mixed brown/white/black - we called her Bitey because as a tiny baby she would bite the others a lot. Mahogany is the third picture, and she's very dark colored. Sadly, 2 of the ones looking like roosters are very pretty too...and we can't have roosters here. I'd love to rehome them, but everyone around here that can have a rooster - does. So sadly, they are destined to become food - happy until they are gone and then honored by using every part of their bodies. The other pics after Dottie are of the whole flock, which consists of 2 Amberlink, 1 Buff Orpington, 2 speckled Sussex, and 2 Easter eggers, and the 6 SFH.

Wonderful colours! You've got such a mix.
This is one of the hens with three chicks. Mum still attacks if you try and pick them up haha
No clear signs if one is a cockerel but we have some head feathers coming on some..
