Swedish Flower Hen Thread

you can blame me for the bad attitudes. LOL so rotten spoiled an di miss them a lot... but I'm looking forward to spoiling this bunch once they get a bit bigger.

LOL - you trained them well! When ever I opened up the brooders they were in, every last one of them would jump up on the sides... and before I knew it, I looked like a NYC pigeon lady with birds covering my head, shoulders and arms as I tried to feed them! So cute!!

Thank you to all who has helped answer my questions. I'm getting excited about this breeding season. The eggs I had in the incubator has hatched and it looks like only one chick had any problems (two curled toes on one foot) so I know everyone I have kept is good to go, but I need to widen my gene pool. Is there anyone on here around Kansas City Missouri that I could possibly work out a trade with that needs to widen their gene pool?

Karen, whenever Leigh's husband would open the container for me to transfer them they did not make a sound they ran up to my hand and would give me little pecks on the hand. I was really surprised at how tame they were considering they were shipped around from him to me. Once I got them to my place and got them out they were enjoying themselves and doing great. They are in good hands I can assure you that.

Well you just better be posting some photos really soon.

Just went outside to see 2 of the largest hawks that I have ever seen in person. Circling over the hen shed area and about 10 crows circling around yelling at them.

They didn't actually leave the area until I went outside and started walking that way.

Since it's winter, my birds are stuck in the kennel run that has the netting over it. But if they hadn't been...those hawks were larger than the chickens in weight (except maybe the rooster) by at least 3-5 lbs by the looks of them.

Those stupid hawks are nesting down the road about 1 mile in wooded area near a subdivision. At least they aren't nesting in our woods.... (Although they would probably be easier to deter if they were.)

I wonder if the crows would have "protected" the chickens if they had been out ranging around?

Oh...and a photo of Emma (since I haven't posted any photos in awhile) ...who was likely spared today from hawk attack by a flock of livestock guardian crows.

And one of "Mister" too..just for the heck of it.

Thank you so much Haplessrunner. Here are two pictures that I took. You reallycannot see them but it kind of gives an idea. I got 13 this size and three younger ones. There are so many different colors and their nature is great.
