Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Leigh those are some handsome boys you have there.
Thanks! I'm very proud of the way my flock has developed. Mace is my pride and joy as far as the roosters go, but Blue is a love-bug.

bulldogma how is the leg on your little "snow leopard"? I think that's what you called her :) Don't think you posted an update since it happened or I missed it!
She's healing really well - thank you for asking. Her leg is lumpy right now, but that should go away in the next few months. She is still in a separate pen with a friend with a bad ankle, but they can see all their buddies. Once I trust her to be safe on a higher perch, she'll be reintegrated with her original flock.

(Of course after a month inside the house, she misses me and gets *really* excited when I go out to visit her... totally spoiled!!)

Oh - and example of Blue based mille fleur:

And for comparison - his dad, Gunnar.

You do have beautiful roosters. I like Mace's full breast and the way his back flows smoothly into his tail, unlike Gunnar's that has the squirrel tail going on. Those are nice looking blue based roos too. It would appear you have the right hens paired to the right roosters. If you ever have an extra roo let me know.

Thank you! It may be easier to ship eggs as opposed to live roosters.

But let me know.

That picture of Gunnar was taken when he was still going through a late adolescent stage. He improved... but still he was nowhere near as good as his son, Mace. Ginger is Mace's mom and she's got the beautiful full, round body shape. I now only keep the fuller roos for breeding. I try to be selective about who I put in which breeding pens - both for conformation as well as taking bloodlines into consideration. I don't do any line breeding right now as I'm trying to widen the gene pool.

Well I just got my first SFH thank you Leigh. Your husband is a good guy I did not know he was a C.O and I had seen his hat in the back of his car and that got us on a similar topic lol. Thank you for the beautiful selection of SFH.
