Swedish Flower Hen Thread

7 out of 20 shipped eggs are growing. Most with severe saddle-shaped air cells. Hoping to have 4 or 5 hatch! Really hoping! On day 11 now.

My roo died, along with a hen, of some random issue. Totally weird.

Hatched out a mess of chicks, and I'm hanging onto them to see who is what...hubby says why do you want more chickens? but you can't have too many SFH! I put more in the incubator a few days ago to see what else we can get.

My flock has been naughty and roamed two days in a row to the neighbor's, even when feed and scratch was scattered here, so they are on lockdown and very peeved at me.

I wonder if it's possible if your girl and boy got hold of something that poisoned them on the neighbor's property?

I use the movable electronet to keep the roaming from happening and to keep them safe from neighborhood stray dogs. Maybe it would be useful for your situation. http://www.premier1supplies.com/fencing.php?mode=detail&fence_id=96

(The poultry kind has smaller mesh. I have the "plus" netting that has more posts and double spikes. )

Candled 12 SFH eggs.....all are clear *sigh*
Day 7!
I'm assuming yours run through the Columbus processing hub also. I'm positive they are destroying eggs I receive. I've got some ohiki/flytie Crosses and I'm amazed Andy are developing from the shape they are in

Well, today is Day 7 for the 26 SFH egg that Leigh shipped me. One clear and one blood ring but the other 24 seem to be developing nicely.

:( IS your Roo very young? I'm a little shocked how diligent my 2 boys are, I think each girl is covered more than 1x per day, I'm thinking I will need to add more spare hens just to give them all a break, right now I have 2 SFH Roos w/ a total of 11 pullets & hens. All the eggs the broody started have been fertile...

I've had 4 boxes of eggs go via the hub in Columbus OH in the past 18 months and not a single egg hatched from any of those and I felt like it was more than just random bad luck (esp. as other eggs hatched fine in the bator w/ those duds).
