Swollen Wattles

So, I just noticed today that my young Welsummer Roo has swollen wattles... ideas?

Did it get cold where you are? Looks like frostbite.

Yes it is partially frostbite, but I've never seen them swell like that.

They are probably pretty painful. I would not handle them since they will injure easily. The wattles can freeze if they get them in their water when temps are below freezing, especially with sub-zero weather and wind. Unfortunately, they will swell like that if it's bad enough. Been there, done that.

What did you do for the swollen waddles? Our Rhode Island Red roster has one swollen and the same black spot as the picture. All our rosters are getting a bit of frost bite this year, but only one has swollen waddle. Any suggestions? Thanks
