Taking Games Jokes and Fun out of Recent Posts Listing?

A poll won't really change the outcome of what we do / don't do in this case.

It also isn't an easy thing to do programming wise or community happiness wise.

We may be able to create a page that is kinda like the "recent topics" page without the games and/or social section, but it wouldn't have all the functionality of showing which topics are read, subscribed, posted, etc. It would just be a simple list like the one on the BYC homepage (which doesn't include games)

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it feels like BYC is catering more to the kids and not as much to the adults. I realize school starts soon, but the nights and weekends will still be all about games. I joined BYC to talk about chickens and have come to like the slightly more social side. But I am frustrated by the fact that I have to weed through the Games area to get to the real chicken threads.

i agree, WAY to much posting there, there could be a " post limit " on it.

I wonder if you start by taking the games out of the recent posts, then where do you stop? Random Ramblings often has nothing to do with chickens so maybe that shouldn't be in the recent post either. Maybe the Hobbies shouldn't be there too. I think that things are working just fine the way it is now. It just isn't that hard to sort through the recent post, and find which topics you want to read. It is clear that a person can't read all the posts, I just look for the ones that I can be helpful with, and the ones that are interesting to me at the moment. Even if the games were removed there would still be post that some people won't like and will be offend at. I have noticed that some seem to be looking for threads that they can get closed down. They are not interested in contributing something positive to the thread, but it seems that they are looking for away that the thread will get locked. I find that rude, and rather mean spirited. If you can't add something nice, they should go look for a thread that they can add to in a positive way. I like the games, they had to my happiness here on BYC. I don't play all the games, but I love that I can pick and choose what interests me.

As a Staff Member.........The Staff has been discussing this as Nifty said.
If we decide to go forward with changes, it will take some programming and much more discussion among the Staff.

As a Participating Member..... I have to agree that the social sections and BSA would be better out of the recent posts and the post counts. This being a chicken forum, the recent posts should be about chickens. <disclaimer. This is not an official position, just my personal opinion>

I agree. My biggest peeve is the "Crazy" whatevers flavor of the day is. Or the "Let's see how much www. space we can waste" threads. How many smilies can I post to boost my post count. Not realizing that a cleanout will erase them all.

I love the teens/tweens and playful adults - but this is alledgedly a chicken forum.... I also do NOT want the social side to disappear, I enjoy it in a limited manner. But I don't want to see the Games take over.

Then I would think that any section not dealing directly with chickens should be removed from recent posts. That opinion is based on the comments being made here, because if you start with one section then next there will more requests to remove other sections. I would think. I for one could ignore the "what are you wearing" thread if I needed to. It just doesn't seem to be that hard.
