Taking Games Jokes and Fun out of Recent Posts Listing?

If the whole social section was taken out of the Recent Posts lists then would it really be so bad? I'm not talking about removing them from the forum altogether, they would still be easy to find for those who want that kind of thing, but I for one am sick of logging on to byc and immediately being asked what I am wearing. Why the heck is that of any interest to anyone? It is getting ridiculous IMO. The Games section could be accessed from the Index page and the recent posts could be just chicken related topics. No one gets excluded or favoured that way. Seems like a win win to me.

Then I would think that any section not dealing directly with chickens should be removed from recent posts. That opinion is based on the comments being made here, because if you start with one section then next there will more requests to remove other sections. I would think. I for one could ignore the "what are you wearing" thread if I needed to. It just doesn't seem to be that hard.

Well, that's certainly an option, though a bit extremist. I think the objection is to the Games threads that hold no intellectual content taking over the Recent Posts. Many of the social threads actually discuss mostly chickens and things related to them.

I can say that a lot of my objections are based upon the fact that frequently the Games threads are burying the Emergencies and other chicken threads.

Right now we have the selection of ..

Show recent posts
Show unanswered posts
Show your subscribed topics
Show your posts

A program change that allows you to select something like
"Show all recent posts"
"Show only Poultry recent posts"

I'm just glad there is no twitter link that shows up on "recent posts" It would be 1 poultry topic per 5 non poultry topics.

Goodluck to the Admins on making everyone happy.

I think it would be good to not have Family Life, Random Ramblings, or G, J, & F show up in the new posts. Although I love G,J, & F, I do think it would be good to have it not be constantly bumping the chicken threads down all the time.

(And not having those sections boost post count might be good, too.

Actually, I think the post count should be done away with altogether, but I think I'll leave that one for another day.

I am sure there is a way to have a recent post section for both social topics and chicken topics. Can you not partition the site and have two seperate recent post sections?
I agree, sorting through the recent posts can get annoying, especially in the summer, at night and on the weekends when the young folk are running amuck!

The "Recent Posts" display shows you the forum section the post comes from. Couldn't you just skip the post from the "Games" section without removing it from the Recent Posts search? Then those who want to see the Games recent posts can, and you won't need to look at them. Recent to me means ALL Recent posts, not just the ones I like.

I tend to agree with this, and just bugged opinion (and her sense of humor).

You will never please everyone, and if you start seperating all the forums, a lot of topics will just die. It's easy to ignore threads that you are not interested in. It takes the whole BYC community to keep this the dynamic site so helpful & fun.

I agree that games etc should be taken out of recent posts. If someone wants to follow them they can subscribe or go to Index. Thaty way those that really need help can be seen quicker.Just MHO.

I think seperation of the social foums recent post, will allow serious chicken related questions and problems to answered in sted of buried under a bunch of nonsense. I like fun and games and random ramblings, but I also notice when I go to recent posts to see if I can help someone, it is time consuming to sift through pages and pages of socialisations. I for one do not have a lot of time, and I know alot of serious threads die because of this.
