My mom found out that she can receive SS benefits from my dad since he died. She misplaced her divorce decree and needs a certified copy to obtain the benefits so she was trying to find one online. She needs the date and or case number of the divorce for the form she found to fill out.
It was long enough ago that it isn't online, so to help her out I called to get the info.
It took me 3 phone calls and I got the date and case number for her. No questions asked. They did not care who I was (although I did tell them I was helping my mom - never gave my name though) or why I wanted the info. Very helpful people, kind of unnerving it was so easy. I have a harder time finding out who handles the insurance for some companies than I did getting this info for her.

I found out where my son is living thanks to my neighbor. My neighbor is doing a remodel job near where Nathan is living, so he has seen him a lot over there. I was able to figure it out when my neighbor told me the neighborhood.

Nathan is staying with a friend he went to prom with (wasn't dating - a group went together as friends) and they are just friends. He moved up quite a bit in his living situation. This friend's parents have money and he is now living in a house about 3x's the size of mine. He drops by every now and then and is managing to fill up the garage so I can't park my car in there. :/ That will need to change really fast when the weather starts to get bad (and as soon as I get a garage door opener).
That's good! Just start sending him pics of his stuff and ask him if he needs it because you're having a garage sale lol

THANKS!

Deep litter article. Thoughts?

From what I read on the thread here it sounds a lot more user friendly, but I guess it is probably more the way it is written than anything. I think this article could almost scare people from trying it.

I just figured out that I entered my car payment into my check register (old one and the new one) twice! That is a big mistake!

Now I am thinking about getting a puppy again. Not sure though.... I still want chickens too.

Chickens are more practical and puppies are more fun.

IF you get the puppy, PLEASE be careful...
Parvo is bad this year. Cash has never left the house, except for the backyard, and he has caught it.
The vet thought he looked like he was beating it, but it's still touch and go. We could lose him over the weekend.

Parvo is so awful and its ridiculous the ways they can catch it..it can live in the soil for long periods of time. The vet this time said a year or more. And things like squirrels can carry it around.

Oh wow! I hope he gets better.

I have squirrels in my yard all the time. :/ My part of town isn't exactly one where people take their pets to the vet either.

I'll have to do some reading up on it.

edit: i just called my vet's office and spoke to them. They said parvo is always bad, it can live in the soil for 5 years, the likelihood of a squirrel carrying it into your yard is possible, but slim, you can bring it home on toys (or your hands) from Petsmart/Petco type places, you can bring it home if you come in contact with it anywhere and don't wash properly when you get home - it could be on your shoes too, but more than likely not.
They told me to treat a puppy like a newborn in the middle of cold and flu season. A puppy isn't fully immune until 2 weeks after their 3rd vaccination.
WOW!

Welcome crazyroo! Little group here, but so much fun!

Parvo is bad JB. Seems to hang around a long time. I don't think any place is 100% safe. Just make sure the animals you have in your yard have been vaccinated and be careful where you take the puppy while its young.

Each day is a day closer to your family being able to come home to you Hung! I know you miss them terribly, and I hope they are able to come over soon!!

I do deep litter. I like it. Is my deep litter perfect? Nope. Mine gets really dry, so I water it down a couple times a week, at least. It gets dusty, and I really don't see anything "composting", but I prefer this method to cleaning out the coop every week. Honestly, if I had to clean the coop every week, I probably wouldn't have chickens. The fatigue from having RA and the meds, just leaves me with barely enough energy to function, much less do coop cleaning weekly. :(

My coop does not stink! Unless I don't clean off the poop board. It didn't get cleaned the weekend we went to Galveston, so had a bit of a smell when we came back. I just raked it off, stirred it in the litter and the smell was gone. My poop board is the top of my coop brooder. I think for my next coop build, I will not have a poop board. Having to rake it daily puts a damper on vacationing. Not many people want to scrap a poop board while you are gone for vacation.

I'm still torn on whether it is safe to put the deep litter straight into my garden. Some say yes, some say no. I think I will clean mine out this fall and put in the garden to sit over winter just to be on the safe side.

I got 14 eggs yesterday. All my chickens are laying now except for the smallest one, Goldie Locks. She is either part bantam or is a runt. She is not as big as the other 2 Orps.

Well, I've got house cleaning to do. Work all week, clean all weekend it seems!
