I am so relieved, but still being careful. He's been sick since last Tuesday, and was camped out on our bed the entire time, until last night. He's keeping Pedialyte down and even ate a little. I honestly did not think he would make it, not being hospitalized, but I guess you have to trust the vet sometimes!! Will definitely be going back to that guy!

Welcome crazyroo! Little group here, but so much fun!

Parvo is bad JB. Seems to hang around a long time. I don't think any place is 100% safe. Just make sure the animals you have in your yard have been vaccinated and be careful where you take the puppy while its young.

Each day is a day closer to your family being able to come home to you Hung! I know you miss them terribly, and I hope they are able to come over soon!!

I do deep litter. I like it. Is my deep litter perfect? Nope. Mine gets really dry, so I water it down a couple times a week, at least. It gets dusty, and I really don't see anything "composting", but I prefer this method to cleaning out the coop every week. Honestly, if I had to clean the coop every week, I probably wouldn't have chickens. The fatigue from having RA and the meds, just leaves me with barely enough energy to function, much less do coop cleaning weekly. :(

My coop does not stink! Unless I don't clean off the poop board. It didn't get cleaned the weekend we went to Galveston, so had a bit of a smell when we came back. I just raked it off, stirred it in the litter and the smell was gone. My poop board is the top of my coop brooder. I think for my next coop build, I will not have a poop board. Having to rake it daily puts a damper on vacationing. Not many people want to scrap a poop board while you are gone for vacation.

I'm still torn on whether it is safe to put the deep litter straight into my garden. Some say yes, some say no. I think I will clean mine out this fall and put in the garden to sit over winter just to be on the safe side.

I got 14 eggs yesterday. All my chickens are laying now except for the smallest one, Goldie Locks. She is either part bantam or is a runt. She is not as big as the other 2 Orps.

Well, I've got house cleaning to do. Work all week, clean all weekend it seems!

I think I would compost the DL. It might be too hot otherwise. I do the yard leaves (mulch them with the mower) in the garden over the winter. Works great.

14 eggs?! Wow! How many chickens do you have now?

Yeah!! Our vet is a good one. :) I'm glad I switched to them when my friend became a vet there.

.I don't think I could make them in my kitchen. Lol
No molt for mine this year. Not old enough. Not disappointed either.

More babies coming tomorrow. It's hatch day!!

Lost my Eloise last night.... I'm so done. Josh blocked off the back door but didn't put him in a room when we went to pick up the kids.
I guess he didn't think Cash was strong enough yet.
I've never been one to give up animals but I am literally trying EVERYTHING.
If another one of my girls goes, he goes.

After we nursed his butt back from the edge...little poop

NOOOOOO!!!!!! I guess he is feeling a lot better. I'm so sorry.

I hate to say this, but I think he is going to always be a chicken killer. He has the taste for it now.

I'm not sure I would want to make those in my kitchen either. I'd have to buy designated utensils, bowls and pans for them. Mealworms are gross! Dried are better than fresh though. ;)

I know. I'll never be able to trust him alone outside. At all, end of story.
But now I can't even leave the house! I cannot physically keep him in. He has to be shut in a room when someone isn't there.
Right now, it's only 4ish hours a day, with a break to go potty. But who can say it won't be longer in the future.

Ive given mine the dried mealies. It's like chicken crack lol.

You need a dog crate for him. He may start eating the walls and carpet as he gets older. My sister's dogs have done that. At least you can use the run once it cools off.

@TexasLisa - where did you get your white clover seeds from? I found this article and I'd love to try some of these flowers in my yard.

Hmmmm....... Someone has new chicks that came yesterday and she hasn't posted photos of them yet.

I will find out next week if the puppy thing will work for me. Of the two planned litters only one may be available. I was talking with the breeder yesterday and found out that Uschi may have reabsorbed her pups. She is just past the time they usually do that, but it can still happen. So sad. :( Gill wanted to keep one of the females from this litter. It is possible that there are a couple pups. She will find out next week.
If that litter is a no go, the litter I was planning on getting from may have too many takers lined up. I'll take it as it comes. No puppy can equal spring chicks.

Glad your dog got over the parvo. That is bad stuff! So sorry he is still killing your chickens. I've always heard once a killer, always a killer. Maybe he'll change? Can you fix him a separate outside pen that the chickens don't have access too?

If your not able to get a puppy this time, maybe you can put you name for the next litter that comes up?

Still waiting for the rain here. It is hot outside, all the grass is drying up. I finished cleaning out my garden today. I let my okra grow to try and save some seeds for next year. I hope they work, they are heirloom. They were so tender and yummy!
