Happy belated birthday Brookshire!!!!
Welcome crazyroo! Little group here, but so much fun!
Parvo is bad JB. Seems to hang around a long time. I don't think any place is 100% safe. Just make sure the animals you have in your yard have been vaccinated and be careful where you take the puppy while its young.
Each day is a day closer to your family being able to come home to you Hung! I know you miss them terribly, and I hope they are able to come over soon!!
I do deep litter. I like it. Is my deep litter perfect? Nope. Mine gets really dry, so I water it down a couple times a week, at least. It gets dusty, and I really don't see anything "composting", but I prefer this method to cleaning out the coop every week. Honestly, if I had to clean the coop every week, I probably wouldn't have chickens. The fatigue from having RA and the meds, just leaves me with barely enough energy to function, much less do coop cleaning weekly.
My coop does not stink! Unless I don't clean off the poop board. It didn't get cleaned the weekend we went to Galveston, so had a bit of a smell when we came back. I just raked it off, stirred it in the litter and the smell was gone. My poop board is the top of my coop brooder. I think for my next coop build, I will not have a poop board. Having to rake it daily puts a damper on vacationing. Not many people want to scrap a poop board while you are gone for vacation.
I'm still torn on whether it is safe to put the deep litter straight into my garden. Some say yes, some say no. I think I will clean mine out this fall and put in the garden to sit over winter just to be on the safe side.
I got 14 eggs yesterday. All my chickens are laying now except for the smallest one, Goldie Locks. She is either part bantam or is a runt. She is not as big as the other 2 Orps.
Well, I've got house cleaning to do. Work all week, clean all weekend it seems!
