Texas

I went to the 93rd Panhandle South Plains Fair in Lubbock yesterday. That was when they were having the poultry judging started at 9am. I had to leave before the big awards. I am going to go back Wednesday morning. There were about 100 birds. Maybe as many pigeons as that. i did not see any ducks, geese or turkeys. Maybe 3-5 hens and roosters of the breeds there. alot of breeds no even there. Alot with just one or two chickens. The fair has a website. I know that when I showed steer, sheep and swine, we had to leave our animals there for the whole fair. I also remember going to fairs across Texas. This show might be a great way for some to add next year to there ribbon count. I will be planning to. Hope this is helpful. Have a great day....

When I entered some chickens in the Comal County Fair, the judging was Saturday morning, but you could not take your birds home until Sunday afternoon. It is not a very big show, but in addition to the regular judging, you can enter backyard birds that are not any particular breed. I entered F1 Polish frizzle crosses and one earned a 3rd place ribbon. I also sold him at the end of the show.

Congratulations Allen Wrench!!! Way to GO!!!

Way to Go! My chickens are not very special to anyone but me but I think it would be super great to get a ribbon! Maybe if they would have a category for best dressed or nicest pedicure, my babies would have a chance!

I don't know anything about Poultry shows but you said you sold your bird at the end of the show. How do you go about doing that? Is there a formal process or did someone just find you? I ask because there was the sweetest little friendly chicken at the show that I would have LOVED to have bought and taken home but I didn't know people sold their chickens at the show. So, when I go to the Texas State Fair in a couple of weeks... and if I find a sweet chicken I want to buy, how do I go about doing that?

The Red River Bantam Club show was held this past saturday at Decatur. 502 total birds entered. It was a great show! I got Best FL with a Buff Brahma cockerel. SAKim, at the Fair find a breed/variety you like, talk to the owner, tell them you are interested. Fall is the time most breeders sell excess birds. The birds at the show usually are not for sale. You can get contact info from the breeder/exhibitor. The fair is open to Texas exhibitors only.

Thank you everyone, and congratulations, Tim!

I agree, at the larger shows, the exhibitors do not usually want to sell their show birds (unless it is a very high price). However, at a lot of the smaller shows, the owners bring birds hoping to sell them. Just ask...

There are usually some birds for sale at the Bluebonnet Classic.

My birds who won ribbons at the Comal County Fair, were just mutts, but they were pretty mutts ! That is what I like about this show. It encourages backyard flock owners to bring their birds.

I can't believe I missed a show so close to home! Why has it been a month since I logged on? Oh, that's right. I'm too busy watching and waiting for my birds to lay their first egg. A watched pot never boils.....
