Texas

Thanks Lisa!! You're morning greetings are nice! It's warm and a bit muggy in Katy this morning. My hens were up early this morning like ready to rock and roll at 5:45! We are just waiting for the rains to come

I used to live in Katy! We moved up to Conroe about a year ago.

It's muggy and gross here, too. At least the rain is supposed to bring a cold front and clear skies behind it!

I am new here. I am north of Dallas. I don't have my chickens yet, hoping for next year. I need to learn more and get things ready.

It's in the 50's here and really, really wet. I want to go cycling today so I hope this clears up and dries up by 11am or I can't go. :( Yes, I am a (obsessed) cyclist. On track for 6,000 miles of road this year (again!).

ps. I started a thread in the new member section too.

Welcome! My crazy husband should make your 6,000 miles just commuting to work. Texas is not the most bike friendly place in the world. Stay safe.

I greet morning in San Marcos, TX daily. Warmer than the last 2 days. I got a hard time falling in sleep when it's warm like this. It is very weird for human beings like us. At late evening, we cannot sleep, the pillow too high, the blanket too thick, too hot, the mattress too hard. Then when we wake up in the morning ... oooo.. ahhh, the pillow is so soft, the inside blanket so warmmmmm, the mattress is just fine... and we cannot get out of bed.

A hurricane is hitting NhaTrang, Vietnam where my new wife lives. She works at a shopping mall, and yesterday shift is 8am-8pm. She reported that the hurricane came at about 2-3pm, still lots of rain and strong wind right now. Not sure how she can drive her scooter to go home tonight. Will wait for her news in the next 1/2 hr.

I love to ride scooter so I did it in each of my trip. Still .. so hard to drive in the rain where water is all over my eyeglass, and all over my eyes. And the wind is cutting into your skin. However, I did ok so far since I know how to swim.

Thank you. :) Some parts of Texas are very bike friendly, like Austin. Where I live cycling is a growing thing and most people are friendly. My favourite roads are the county roads in my area and I haven't had any trouble riding them. I love to ride the open country and see the ranches/farms. With all this rain we have been having and the need to 'do life' I haven't been out since last Friday. I am going nuts!

I'm just north of San Antonio in the Hill Country. Our mayor wrote a delightful editorial piece on how bicyclists were endangering cars. He was furious he couldn't pass them safely, felt they had no business interfering with motor vehicles so ended up yelling and screaming at them when they complained to him he had passed them very unsafely. People forget that a bicycle is a vehicle and has a right to use the road. I haven't been on my bicycle since my head injury in a car accident in January. I haven't had good balance up until very recently, but I think I do now. I'm looking forward to starting riding again, but am really afraid with all the anti-cycling sentiment. My crazy husband feels the safest way to bike into work is down Hwy 281. He claims it has a huge shoulder and people don't text while driving on a big highway, unlike on smaller roads. He might have a point except a month or so ago some idiot in an SUV swerved off the road and hit him on the far right of the shoulder at about 65 mph. Miraculously, his bike stayed upright and he only had ripped shorts, lots of bruising and scrapes. It was so incredible, that the whole highway stopped to see if he was okay. The idiot just took off--what is it about this place with so many hit and runs?????!!! The witnesses took cell phone pictures of the car and texted them to 911, so the police had a photo of the front of the car and the driver before they even arrived. Haven't heard anything from the police--just incredibly thankful that he so narrowly escaped becoming road kill. Yes, he still rides to work.

Thanks Lisa, my wife MT had been home. She said strong winds causing lots of zigzag driving.

I remembered 1 of the night in 2000 I was driving home on a small scooter over there. I could barely see 5-6 yard in front of me; water on my glass and on my eyes. Several times I almost hit someone since overthere folks usually wore dark rain coat (military influence). And the motor bike lighting was always horrible. In many cases, after turing on the head light, I had to put my hand in front the light for verification. At that time I had to drive in the heavy rain at 5 miles per hour.. to get home... before flooding.

Still, when going home, I love to go around town in a motor bike. The experience brought me back to my teenage years. Will have pix soon.
