You didn't tell me!  Where did you order from?  The lady near Bonham?
A lady in Decatur. Humble Acre Farm.
I didnt say anything until it was a done deal lol
Plus I didnt want to add to your chick fever ;) if you want somebody can add some I think.
or you could go with me to pick them up :)

Question.. how old are your chicks before you let them outside in a play pen?

Depends on the weather, and what pen is free for them to go out in. I only put them out in "good" weather until they are older and I always run an extension cord outside to run their warmer for them if they are still on heat. And unless I can be right there with them, smallest babies don't go outside unless I have a secure pen free for them to use. But in the right circumstance, I let newly hatched chicks go outside.

Today is very windy, so only the 3 week olds are outside and I set up wind breaks for them in the pen. They've been off heat for more than a week, so I did not take a warmer out for them since it is sunny enough for them to keep warm.

Momma hens take chicks out soon after hatching, so as long as you have a heat source, wind protection, predator protection, you can take them out when you feel comfortable doing it. No set age requirement for the chicks, just depends on your level of comfort.

bnjrob said it all right...My gang got their feet on the ground for the first time yesterday. It was sunny, warm, not windy and I could be there to watch them. They will be 4 wks old Sunday.
If you're not comfortable letting them out yet but want them to get a taste of outside you can try these things.
If you have room in your brooder cage...take a shallow pan, put some scoops of yard dirt in it with bits of weeds and grass and put it in the pen. they will play and scratch in that.
Or you can pull up some clumps of clean grass, dirt, roots and all and put it in their cage. They will peck and nibble it and scratch for bugs. Both are good because they can get chick grit from the dirt and they will get exposed to the ground they will be on which helps build natural immunity.

yea it's nearly Fri...my kids are ready for me to go to Walmart and get them a teacher who doesn't forget things...they are getting quite frustrated with me.
I tell them my heads in with my new chicks to be!

Those little turkeys are so cute!

Well, ordered some bird from a breeder yesterday!
I'm going to have 10 little fluff butts for awhile!
2 Black Copper Marans
2 Blue Marans
4 Golden Cuckoo Marans
2 Cream Legbars!

My first breeder birds! I'll only be keeping 2 of the GCMs and 1 CL, because they're for sure pullets.
Woot!! So happy that your getting some breeder babies! :)

Well, had my first injury today with one of my chicks. One of the comets had some blood on top of her tail head, at the base of her tail feathers. I was watching her for a while to see what was going on. Seems like she is "over" preening her tail feathers. I didn't notice anyone else bothering her, she was doing it herself. Sprayed some Blue Kote on her to help and to keep the others from seeing the red. I don't think she likes the taste of the BK very much, LOL.

Hi Y'all,
Spring is so exciting. So many new additions to flocks. I have hatched 13 Blue Ridge Silkies. We can not keep our hands off of them since they hatched Feb 25TH. Justin weather has been windy and so the "kids" are playing in the horse trailer on warm days. All windows and vents are wide open and they are loving the exercise. I hate to see any of these beauties go but they will be posted for sale soon. Boohoo.
Enjoy the warm weather and watch for stormy skies.
Deb
