Brookshire11 stepped on her little marans just a while ago. It got under her feet and brynn didn't see it. It was hurt bad and her husband had to put it down. She's pretty messed up about it. This was the last of the 4 she originally got from a breeder in Decatur. She was fostering them for me and 3 got through her fence a week ago and the neighbors dog got them. Sadie was the last and brynn and I decided it was best if she kept this one. I'm so sad for her. It was such a beautiful chick.

people may give me a weird look when they see my brooders that i make for my chicks but they can't get out and nothing can get in. I hope she will be OK i stepped on a hamster baby once and i haven't had the heart to keep hamsters since so i know the feeling.

Howdy guys and gals!

It's been a busy month here. Two of my best friends got married, four are engaged, John and I unofficially set a date.

My new dog Mack got hit by a car. My coop got raided. We have nine crowing roosters that need to be corn fed plumped and plucked. My mothers health is on the rise. Did I mention I've also been through four states in th last four days?

Fwew wedding season come to an end please!

Also, we're about to move but we have no idea where. More info coming when I have it. Have I missed much?

Holy cow. 2014 needs to slow down.

When I first got my chicks and goslings, I put their brooder in the garage. I did this for a couple reasons, 1. I have a chicken killer Siberian husky and would not risk her getting the chicks, 2 my AC would not have been good for the babies, 3 the noise and smell of broodies was not something I wanted in the house. The brooder was covered with window screen and chicken wire at night to prevent a mouse, snake, cat, ect getting to them. After it warmed up, I broodered all new batches of chicks, goslings, and ducklings in their coops, just fenced off an area from the older birds and put the day olds in with night time heat lamp. Next year I hope that any new babies gets adopted by my hens and I don't have to brood them again. Will have to see how that works though.

I had to put down my girl ShadowKat earlier this week. It was rough and still get upset about her loss.
We have 3 and a half week old Cayuga ducklings now, they are nearly Ebony's size, lol. Got a new 2 month old rooster, named Smoke, he is a black Orpington. He is from show lines and his dad was 16 pounds. Discovered Screwball, my 5 month old rooster had mites and had to treat all 26 chickens, 8 geese, and 7 ducks as well as clean out 2 coops. Gotta retreat on the 15th to kill any mites that hatch from eggs. My trucker neighbor will be delivering about a dozen pallets every Saturday to me until I no longer need them for my coops. Got a lot of remodeling and extensions planned for them, as well as a duck coop and possibly a grow out pen for next years cockerels. Just finished putting up a above ground pool for my sons, as an early B-day present for them.

Oh, my chickens are 18 weeks old, not much longer to wait for them to start laying. So excited that we will get our fist chicken eggs soon!
