Texas

I got a rain gauge last year. Says we got 3 inches of rain last week. I think I'm doing something wrong. I also had to put down more woodchips because the mud is terrible.

The two maybe related? :lau
We've been getting tons of rain up here also. I have hardwood mulch in the run and that seems to be doing good. We have the run on 18" pavers so its draining pretty good. We did make a few panels to put on the two sides that the rain likes to blow in so that the girls have a dry spot to lay. In cold and wet weather I don't think you could get me out of the coop. I'd stay all cuddled up in the nice fluffy nesting box...but no the girls are braver than me.

Greeting, salutations and welcome!

We had a dryer than normal summer and didn't add as many wood chips to the yard. The yard ate last year's wood chips and is really green, but extremely muddy. The dogs and the chickens aren't helping.

I left the chickens on grass and they kept most of the run mowed. Working better than goats. I've only got a little bit to trim. They are working on the garden area since the run shrank.

I don't miss the white stuff at all. I use to live North of McKinney. We use to get snow and ice every year, sometimes more snow than ice.

Thats why I chose Tx as apposed to staying up in the 'Mitten'; I wanted to have no need to own a snow shovel any more. And... well, so far.... so good.

I am near Mabank, Cedar Creek Lake.

We have horses, goats, Jacob Four Horn sheep, over 100 rabbits, approx. 300 head of several breeds of chickens, Guineas, 1 Brahman bull, 2 emu's, 1 pot-bellied pig, 1 wild sow, 3 Great Pyrenees, 1 Blue heeler, 1 BlueHeeler - Border Collie cross, & 1 Miniature Longhaired Dachshund.

you still got the "Zoo?" after all these years? You still out around the lake? We have a place down there that we are fixing up currently..... might be able to meet up IRL this year, if so?

Rafter hadn't been online since 2014 so he/she may not respond.

So we just had a predator attack on our week old chicks we lost about 4 or 5 yesterday, and today I figured out who the predator was. Turns out it's my chicken safe chocolate lab. Looks like this chick might have a broken leg I guess I'll vet wrap it and separate it out with one or maybe even the whole family just bring mommy in.

Other than that that it's been a good day we're expecting rain but I doubt that's going to happen as you guys have all the luck!

Bleeding heart is taking a nap so we'll have to discuss the chicks future when she's around. I doubt it's wise to have a an injured chick hobbling around with all of our Hawks to bring them in.

Oh so sorry ! I love my dogs but they have been responsible for a few (3) deaths round here (my hubby "trained them to leave chickens alone" ...when he is supervising.) We no longer let them mingle. Why can't we all just get along?
Good luck with the chick whatever you decide.

I know my Australian Shephards wanna be bird dogs would not behave with chickens. I separate them with 2 acres and multiple fences!
