I breed Buttercups. If you need a rooster you can always get a cockerel or twelve from me. Haha 😂

I didn't know that you bred buttercup. Do you have a picture of two (or more) They have the most fantastic combs!

Well! It's been an "interesting" morning! I woke at 4:30 thinking "something I wanna/need to do at 5", no idea what, so I went back to sleep. 5:40 eyes fly open "babies", I acquired 5 babies yesterday.
Thank you auntiejessi3, and wanted to try and put them under a broody. She's one of my feral game hens.
So I Hustle out to coop, coffee, phone, flashlight, chicks........and broody immediately attacks babies, me, other flockmates, the wall. Total chaos. While broody is pecking at babies, an Australorp comes over and starts pecking broody, protecting babies. Broody leaves nest, goes to roost. Babies go in different nestbox. All is calm. Flock starts to head to run. Everyone leaves except broody. She heads back to nestbox, chooses empty box. I start tucking babies, she starts guiding them under her.

All calmness broody making soft mama clucks.
Yeah, my australorps also seem to be good at the mom thing.
Glad your broody got in the mood. 🤣

Omg! I can't believe she took them! Fan-frickin-tastic!❤️
I had an interesting year with my old broody, Lucy, last year. She is 8 now, and mostly blind so I probably should force her into retirement.
Last fall I let her sit on 3 eggs. One hatched on the 8th of October. On the 12th, I cleaned out her nest and found 2 marked eggs (undeveloped) and an unmarked legbar egg that was developing. I put it into the incubator and on the 17th it hatched. So 9 days after she hatched the 1st one, I gave her the 2nd. She raised them both. I don't think she would have done that if she were younger, because she's always enjoyed wandering around the yard with her chicks. She was much more prone to staying near the coop with these.

It's just amazing how motherly some hens can be! 4 of the chicks were a week old and the runt was 5 days old. I'm so glad they're getting a great start in their new home! ❤️
