In and out during the day is the way to go if you are wanting to get them use to the heat. Out in the morning around 8, then back in between 12 & 2, when it gets too hot. If they don't look stressed, leave them out. Then back out as it cools off, and back in at night.

Howdy! I'm a chicken-newbie from Brackettville, between Uvalde & Del Rio. I just had my first hatch and out of 16 shipped Delawares, 10 made it to lock down and 8 hatched! They're all healthy as can be and doing great. I also had 12 Silkies, but none of them made it. I suspect incubator tampering, rough shipping (one was broken on arrival) and a humidity drop at lock down while we were out of town did in the two that made it past day 10 (it didn't bother the Dels though, but the Silkie eggs were a bit porous which I imagine would have a play in how much humidity they can take in & lose. One of the Del eggs that didn't make it was also pretty porous as well).

I'm trying again with another batch of Silkies, they were set Friday so wish me luck!
I just have a Havo-bator 1620 (I think... the styrofoam ones like the LG) with a LG egg turner & forced air fan kit. I tried duck eggs a couple years ago & failed miserably with keeping up with the turning & temperature stability without the fan. As far as I'm concerned, adding the turner & fan kit is the only way to go!

These week old Del chicks are the cutest things ever and I'll be pretty sad when we have to move them out!
