@Starfire669
says two of the ducks she purchased from me, yesterday, are laying eggs.  One laid an egg here just before they were loaded up & on the road...but now she's witnessed another one lay an egg.  :eek:   Looks like I was wrong about our White Leghorn, Fred, being our trusty layer.  I had a feeling all of our pullets were too young to lay, but the eggs were small enough I doubted they belonged to any of the ducks.

I'm glad we've still got half a carton of eggs left over from when the ducks were ours.  I guess we'll have to enjoy them a little more, now that we won't be getting anymore fresh eggs for a little while.  :p

PS: Had I known there were TWO layers among the Quackers, I should have charged more.  LOL  ;)

P.S. forgot to say that after meeting you and talking with you I got the feeling you were more concerned about making sure they ended up in a good home more than anything else. I could be wrong though.

That was definitely priority #1! The only way I would have parted with the ducks is if I was certain they would be taken care of. Looks like you're spoiling them rotten, and they're loving it!

Yup. Went out and bought some oyster shell, and some layer pellets just for them. Also picked up some chicken scratch for the whole flock. So yeah, guess they are being spoiled rotten, lol.

Fermented feed is definitely the way I will go!! There is a ton of information in the thread bekissed started! It is not complicated at all and too many make it harder than is necessary!!! Think KISS!!!

Tikkijane did a write up on it as a link. Print it out for your reading pleasure. I read every page of that thread before I ever made my first post along with many, many others!!!

Hehe, I do have a little variety in my flock. I'm all for the spice of life, hehe! Yeah, I've been on and off in most of the forums. I just came back from Austin on Monday after being away from the flock for the week. I've just been trying to get back into the groove of things.

I only have one Muscovy right now. One of my hens is broody, though, so I'm also in search of Muscovy hatching eggs. I love those duckies so much! The guy I got my Muscovy from has some ducklings right now, but I don't know that he'll be selling them right now. I do believe he said he'd not sell them until they were big enough to not be watched by their mother.

I'll mention it here if I can did any leads, though! @TherryChicken, were you looking for adults or ducklings?

Yeah, I've been researching and mostly what I'm seeing is not to start on layer feed until they actually lay. Layer is higher in calcium/lower in protein. Extra calcium hard on chicks' kidneys and they need high protein for feather development. The ones I'm getting are fully feathered so I'm going to put them on grower feed and hope for the best.

I wouldn't recommend layer until the birds are laying. all of them. I'd just offer oyster shell closer to POL. Just my opinion... It's harmful to younger birds. Can cause kidney failure, etc.

Well looks like my American game hicks will have to be seperated at 8.5 weeks. They just won't stop, even my barred rocks that I have in with them have stared fighting, which is normal for the pecking order, except that the game chicks will not leave them alone, so alone time it is.

We separate our games at six weeks. The drive in our line to get at each other is to high...
