Texas

Thank God everyone is all right. Sorry for the rough night. We got about 4 inches of rain, a little wind, and some lightning. Nothing like what you got. I think your remaining plants will do great. If they survived that, they can survive anything. How is everything going??

It just started raining again. We heard thunder 30 minutes ago and just finished carrying the ducks and geese to the chicken coop and rounding up stranglers that didn't want to go in. Lol. Ebony is still off her injured leg, but I went to TSC for feed and bedding as all mine was soaked from last night and I got her some vitamin and minerals to help her. I also got some Blu-kote for the cuts on her feet. One of my goslings is showing signs of angle wing so I brought vet wrap and wrapped its wings up. My chickens pecked each other this morning, saw a couple blood spots but can't find the injured chicken. I can't blame them for bing upset to be shut in the coop for half the day, but I wish they had found other ways to pass the time. I put some scratch in the coop and turned off all but the red heat lamp, so I hope they settle quickly.

We finally got the downed tree cut down and moved out of the garden. The corn plants are a total loss, which is upsetting. But I keep reminding myself that it could have been a lot worse. The tree could have hit my coop instead of the garden, animals or people could have been hurt, buildings could have taken damage, but none of that happened and I am grateful for that.

Henry was fine this morning, eager to check his garden. I don't know if he is back yet. I was so busy I could have missed his return. I will check on him later. I just finished making a big pot of curry and I am starving.

I got a question. Is there such a thing as an optometrist for chickens ?? I believe my Buff Orpington is far-sighted. I have watched her in the yard, and she puts one of her eyes about a half inch off the ground and then pecks, I guess when she sees what she is going after. Also when I am giving treats, holding between thumb and forefinger, she pecks at my middle finger, before she figures it out. Have to be there. Funny to watch. Will get video asap.

It is odd how sharp their sight is normally. Well that's my observation.
