Texas

I will take a breath and try to figure out what we might have forgotten for the wedding.

The girls were begging so I gave them a fresh, vine ripe tomato. Those spoiled hens.

I live in south TX south of San Marcus! I have a problem. Need help badger family has moved in at my gate. Live out on county line far from town. How do I get them to leave or get them in a trap? Any help please.

BADGERS???!!!

I had no idea and had to Google!! ...I just recently found out there were porcupines in the area, too.

Badgers have not been documented in Hays County (according to a map I saw). You should call Texas Parks and Wildlife and have them document them.

We have Jaguarundi's in my area...the hubs had one run out in front of him several years ago in daylight and he was able to slow down and watch it climb a hill.

eta: From what I have read, if you put both types of waterers in the pen for the chicks, they will usually go for the regular waterer, simply because it is easier to drink from. Best thing is to do what you feel is best for your flock.
I can tell you the little cups don't work...my hens can't seem to peck the little yellow float, they drink the cup dry and that's it. We went back to the smaller barrels that I can handle so the birds don't want for water. I would like to try the nipples though. I bought the wrong ones at TSC...they are vertical ones that will work on the bottom of a bucket...not what I wanted.
Henless...where did you get the horizontal nipples? We want to do what you did with the bucket and nipples on the sides.

I got my Horizontal Nipples off of Ebay. The seller is a BYC member. I went ahead and bought the 10 pack to have extras in case I needed them. He also sells a 5 pack for those who don't want the 10 pack.

Also, from what I have read, these horizontal nipples don't hold water inside them like the vertical ones do. So, should be less chance of them freezing in the winter. You'll just need to keep the water in the bucket from freezing or use a different waterer for freezing weather.

In case the links don't work, you can look up Solway Feeders game and poultry on Ebay.

Your lucky to have seen a Jaguarundi, they are very reclusive and rare. On the other hand, they would eat your chickens, so take precautions for the protection of your flock with those guys around. It's a very good thing they are day hunters and not night hunters.

Some people who live way out in the country say the jaguarundi can breed with domestic cats, anyone know if this is true? I doubt it, as the jaruarduni would probably kill a cat, but they swear some of their mousers are huge and have coloring similar to jaruarduni. I think they just have big old domestic house cats, I have trapped some huge ones here (tomcats) and we don't have jaguarundi in my area.
