Texas

Hello, I recently joined.
I live about 1-1/2 hours southwest of San Antonioin the heart of the Texas oil boom, Carrizo Springs.
Anyone else on here close to Carrizo?
My three boys (12, 8, & 5) built a coop this summer and have acquired a few chickens who we have really enjoyed.
My boys were skeptical about them when we were building the coop and now they are really attached to them, it is great to see them excited about it!
WELCOME TO BYC!!!

I'm sorry for your hen. That's great that you can figure out what went wrong.
It is so nice for everyone to get out and really run around! I wish it was like this most of the year.
Thank you.

I'm so sorry!!!!

Vent Gleet?
Thank you.

I also have an araucana who keeps getting poo stuck to the feathers around her vent. Her stool is often normal and formed like all the other hens... It drives me insane. Otherwise she is a happy gal running around with everyone else and laying her pretty and large eggs.

On another note, why is it so hard to find turkens in the dfw area?

I have been wanting to add a turken, and a leghorn or a colored egg later to my flock. I have too many brown egg layers and not enough green or white... though I wouldn't mind a chocolate egg layer > v>

Hello! I'm on the opposite side of the state from you - a couple hours east of Dallas. It's great your boys have taken to the chickens. Mine never seemed to care either way. But I think they secretly liked them. Lol

Wecome! I'm 3+ hours away in Waco, Tx. My family could care less about my chickens at first. They merely seemed amused, thinking I was weird. Now my wife is hooked and the kids fight over who will gather the eggs lol

In other news, Thanks @Brookshire11 ... after a little research, I think you hit the nail on the head. A bath, ACV and yogurt coming up!!

So besides killing two of my silkie chicks for whatever reason, someone has also decided to cut my mom's pool liner. Dead chickens now this? Does anyone know the law about harming property and livestock here? The silkies got strangled last week, someone had took them out of my non-permanent cage and strangled them, leaving them in my flower beds. Now they're damaging property. I hope none of you guys have to deal with this.

I am so sorry! If it is not happening to any of your other neighbors, it's likely someone you know, or maybe your children know. I hope the police are involved.

Have you made a police report?

That's TERRIBLE!! I'd report it to the police IMMEDIATELY before they decide to do something worse!!
