Howdy!

I'm located smack dab in the middle of Round Rock, just north of Austin.

Just wondering if anyone is having any issues with their hens not laying (due to heat?)

My hens were laying fine until it got up to be 100+ nearly everyday, but now it's been about 2 weeks and NO eggs.

I have 2 pullets that are about 4.5 months old so they aren't laying either. I hate having to buy eggs when I'm paying to feed chickens.

They all seem to be handling the heat well with the exception of no eggs. I hose down the run from time to time and it seems to help.

From what Im told and from what Ive noticed from my girls is that stress will cause them to have an egg lock. The heat this year is HORRIBLE! I get stressed if Im in it for more than 5 minutes myself! LOL Just be patient with them.

hi i had some issues with low egg production due to the heat. i was getting 11 eggs a day then it got real hot and was down to maybe 3 eggs if i was lucky. i put some more shade in the runs and installed misters that go off during the afternoon heat and that has helped. i also had lost 2 hens due to the heat before i installed the extra shade and misters. my run is in the trees so they had dappled shade anyway but i put shade cloth over the runs and now they seem much happier.

Ok, good to see a few more folks from my neck of the woods!

We have dappled shade from a big tree, and they have a well ventilated chicken house they sometimes go into when it gets really bad. Before the heat got like this each full grown hen was laying an egg everyday. First my tan EE stopped and several days later my big ole black one stopped. She was my prize layer too, huge green eggs everyday without fail. I guess I just need to give them some time...but I'm already ready for November weather.

Have you tried craigslist? I found that if you sell him for a little bit it will discourage people from eating him. I got rid of two of my roosters on there and they are alive and well out in Cedar Park

Now they actually have a full acre to roam too!

Thanks,

I will give CL a try. I went out to take a look at "her" again and it suddenly hit me how long those tail feathers have gotten. I know even the BA girls can have pretty big combs and waddles, but I think I may have been fooling myself on this one...

If anyone is interested in a handsome BA roo, please let me know! I'd like to see him go to a good home, of course.

I was at the Spring Ho Festival today, in Lampasas Texas. The Ducks were having so much fun just swimming around in the man made canal/river (what ever you want to call it). Well, it made me kind of sad to think that my 4 Ducks (Rouens) only have a little kiddy pool. Does that make me a bad person? I did notice that one of the white Ducks at the park looked like it had been badly injured at some point - but seemed to be swimming and eating just fine. I hope the poor little guy will be okay. The park also had somr 7 or so cute adorable baby ducks swimming around, they were so cute. I don't think my husband will allow me to have anymore ducks

. They poo-poo soooooooo much, lol. But guess what - I just asked him; "Honey, Can I have any more Ducks". He said; "Honey, you can have anything you want". Hmmmm?
