Texas

Hey lighteningT!! Welcome to the list! It's for everyone in Texas... When are your rescue geese supposed to get here!

Nice looking babies!
Some day I hope to have some Speckled Sussex.
Send us another photo once they all hatch :jumpy

2 Speckled Sussex chicks hatched yesterday! 2 more starting today
Thanks 8 BR's hatched today but still only the 2 Sussex ( 2 more starting) Will put more pic's as soon as their finished :jumpy

I gave a co-worker 26 Marans eggs for her new incubator (just a small Little Giant incubator) 3 weeks ago. As of this morning she had 18 hatched and more in the process. 6 of the 18 are Blue or Blue Copper Marans. If you are a chicken nut like us this is exciting!!!

Help! Have chicks hatching but the Sussex seem to start pecking through but then seem to get nowhere for 24 hrs+. 2 are out now but I have 2 more that seem to be "on hold" for more then 24 hrs. now & they are alive in there. :barnie

The one time i incubated and tried to hatch that happened... DW tried to "help" and killed the chick in the process... we had humidity problems.... let nature take its course.... sad to say but if they dont have the stregnth to fully hatch they dont make the cut...
hope urs make it!

Hey lighteningT!! Welcome to the list! It's for everyone in Texas... When are your rescue geese supposed to get here!
My rescue geese are supposed to be mailed out on Monday, Oct 22, unless the weather doesn't cooperate and it's too warm. I have to work like a crazy person on my goose house this weekend. I am really excited about them coming. If all goes well with the first two, I may wind up with a third one that has a somewhat gimpy leg (or foot, I'm not sure).

My Welsh Harlequin ducks are doing great. I sold a Silver WH drake to a really nice lady from Gary, Tx about a week ago. I tried to interest her in the Golden WH drake I have that needs to go somewhere (or he'll wind up in freezer camp), but she didn't have room for both of them. I have two drakes that I will be butchering this weekend, one with a gimpy leg and one with a very wide and irregular white ring around his neck. If it weren't for that ring, he would be gorgeous. But, I don't want to breed from a male with such an obvious coloration problem. If anybody knows someone fairly close to Timpson or Nacogdoches that wants a Golden WH drake, let me know.

It's just a BYC thread for Texans. Not just for chicken folks, ducks, etc. welcome too! Many folks raise ducks and chickens and all sorts of stuff. We even talk about not-bird things sometimes.
Thanks for making a duck person feel welcome! I have seen your posts on some other threads. I was raised in Houston but moved up here to East Texas about three years ago to help out my elderly parents. My daughter and I love it up here. Once the Dewlap Toulouse are all settled in, I think I would like to get a breeding pair of either Cotton Patch geese or Pilgrim Geese. And, maybe even some chickens someday!

Hi, I live in the community of Sheridan, about 70 odd miles west of Houston. This is a great site. I like to look at everyone's coops.
