no, used to tho. I have ameraucanas, LF cochin, black JG, blue isbar and a pen of mixed flock. Silkies.are.so fun!!! I'm getting crested cream legbar eggs, OE eggs and welsummers eggs for the hatch along tho! Wishing I had tolbunts from gff. Are you doing the NYD hatch??

I have never had Silkies before. I had not even planned to hatch again until Spring. I am putting eggs in the bator Friday night If I find more eggs I can't live without I might Wanting to find some splash, maybe blue Marans with a nice dark egg.

I just wanted to say I finally got a blue egg! Well I didn't really, but the pullet I raised and gave to my neighbors granddaughter did. We are all so excited. LOL. It's the first I've raised EE's and kept them close enough by that I saw their eggs once they started to lay. I was hoping this girl would lay blue eggs since her ears are white. Now there's two more that I still have and hoping they start laying soon.

Congratulations. I can imagine how excited you are. I'm just so excited while I wait to put some age on my chicks and then get eggs. Raising chickens is just exciting, period. I'm sure there's a whole world who would laugh at that statement but it's their loss.

I remember getting my first blue egg....so eggciting! Lol now I'm crazy bout so many different breeds! Right now I got rare blue isbars from greenfire farms, and getting crested cream legbars (autosexing breed from greenfire) my next breed I want is tolbunt polish!!

Hello everybody. I'm in Del Rio, which is a border city in Val Verde County. Del Rio is connected with Ciudad Acuña Mexico via the Lake Amistad Dam International Crossing and Del Río – Ciudad Acuña International Bridge. Del Rio is also home to Laughlin Air Force Base. I was born and raised here ;-)

About 3 years ago I got it in my head to have a back yard flock of chickens. I ordered 10 day old Easter Egger female chicks. Right before they started to lay eggs I acquired a lost rooster that was hanging around my grandma's house. I still don't know much about chickens so I couldn't tell you what breed he is. He is a small variety of rooster, black and white in color, and has feathers down his legs. Anyway, my hens were happy with him, and he is a good little rooster. After a while I decided to buy a Little Giant incubator and try to hatch some eggs. My hens showed no interest in sitting on their eggs so I wanted to try hatching some. I ended up with 4 roosters and three hens. All were beautiful to me. They all ended up having feathers on their legs. The roosters were gorgeous but much larger than their daddy. The hens were pretty too, but smaller than their Easter Egger mommas. Long story short, I couldn't keep them all. To give away the roosters, I offered a couple hens to go with each.

Currently I have 4 of the original Easter Egger hens and the original lil rooster named Michael. My hens are about 3 years old, but stopped laying in mid August. Their eggs are so large and beautiful. I get pale blue, green and an occasional pinkish colored egg. So I started thinking I wanted some more chicks. I shopped around at the online hatcheries, but didn't want to wait till after the first of the year. Then I looked on eBay and found sellers of hatching eggs. I planned on getting more Easter Eggers, but then I saw pictures of silkies! Before I could control myself, I was in a bidding war for 18 eggs. Of course I won that auction and the seller was kind enough to send 6 extra...oh my! The seller has a large flock and said with these eggs I could hatch any of these colors - Paints, Lavenders, silver, grey, self blue, Porcelain, Partridge (all color variations), Calico, Buff, Splash, Black, White, Blue. See why I couldn't resist?! They are in the incubator and are due to start hatching Nov. 30th.

So, I'm excited, nervous, and crazy LOL! I know I won't be able to keep them all if I have a good hatch. I also will want to keep them till I can tell the roosters from the hens and pick my favorites. I'm glad I found this site and especially the Texas thread. I'm gonna need advice from you guys. Sorry this post is so long, but it's my first and I figured I should tell you my chicken history ;-)
