Praise God. Diabetes is a life changer. I'm guessing your brother has what is sometimes called "juvenile diabetes" or type 1. This is a diabetes that is insulin dependent, and it is not possible to survive without insulin. I'm glad your brother was diagnosed before life time complications had started. Please encourage him to test his blood sugar often, observe a healthy diet and life style, get good diabetes education, and find a good doctor. Some doctors are not good with diabetes management! My husband has been a diabetic for 23 years now, due to loss of his pancreas. His health is good, because he manages his diabetes well.
