Thanksgiving Day Hatch, anyone?

Sorry to hear of your didn't make it baby chick there. That is not what I am looking forward to my first time but can handle it if I can handle dead people I can handle this.

What is the earliest date they can start peeping?? I use to look at the temp and the hum and now I am looking at the eggs too more so..I am due tomorrow or Sat. the latelst. I set them on Friday nite November 7.

Well I think the final count as of today is 15 healthy silkies plus one not too well silkie that seems a bit not right. One live marans chick and one that hatched out and died. A little better than 50 percent for the silkies but only 2 out of 8 for the marans. They still may hatch though. Hope I got a pullet marans.

Well the last chick hatched today while I was eating dinner. The final count is 16. 9 partridge or barred rocks (can't tell which yet) and 7 buff orpingtons. I've cleaned out the bator, but it is looking awfully sad sitting empty.

Well, I finally made it back home. Ran in the house to look in the bator. There is one baby Welsummer all fluffed out in there. I assumed it was the one peeping and rocking yesterday until I took a closer look at my "numbered" eggs. It ends up this was a different egg. The one that was rocking and peeping is not doing anything at all now.

I couldn't wait and removed that egg to have a look. I can't get any light penetration into the egg at all. However I can't hear anything or feel any movement. Also the egg hadn't even pipped

So I'm afraid it must have died in the egg. It looks like I'm only going to have one lonely Welsummer from all of this. I sure was hoping for at least two:(

Well, my last count of buttons is 18. I still have 12 eggs in there after candling tonight, and the dial must have gotten bumped for the heat sometime to day, cause the temp was real low. I bumped it back up and left the other eggs in there. I hope a few more hatch, but out of 50 eggs I have 18 live chicks, 18 clear eggs, and 12 no shows. Two eggs were broken after I got them, those tiny eggs were hard to get out of that carton!!

I also candled my 2 chicken eggs that are due today, that I had more or less given up on. One of them has pipped the air cell!!!

I rushed it and the other into the hatcher. So I hope to have another baby chick in the morning, or at least by tomorrow evening

The other egg still looks like a goner, but we'll see!! I guess my thermometer is a bit off as well! My chickens eggs always hatch at least 2 days early!

So far, I've got 7 RIRs and 2 Ameraucanas. I had one Ameraucana die in the shell while hatching. I opened the shell, and the chick had not absorbed the yolk sac. I also had one RIR that hatched, seems healthy, but has a red "bubble" hanging out its bottom. Yolk sac didn't fully absorb, but I've left the chick in the bator to see if it will absorb in a little more time.

How many did you start with?? OMG, I thought I had a lot! I'm up to 19 baby button quail, and they are still hatching! Most of them hatched between Tuesday and Wednesday night, with one yesterday afternoon and one overnight sometime.
