Happy Chooks, no secret admirer..just no name on it..I did have 3 boxes to come. Well, I also got another box today, had the name of the sender. That helped. :) All these eggs are from the east coast. Duh, I should have looked at the stamp, it showed where the box came from. When I saw it say MA..I knew who it was from. The other one came from VA..and had the name of the gal on it. That one got sent out on the truck.
I was confused with the first box we picked up..and I saw all of these eggs, a lot!..in the first box. I thought for sure it was from the gal that was sending just EE's. But they weren't just EE eggs..there is a beautiful assortment of colors..and a lot of them. The ones that should have come first, should only be blue eggs, and only 12. That's when my brain was going what? Who? Never imagined that Arielle's eggs would get here in two days! Usually they take three or even 4 days from that area. Oh well, two different orders I can set for the hatch a long. Beautiful eggs!
I was teasing you. But looking forward to seeing those beautiful eggs!

I think I'm going to join you guys! I wasn't going to because this time of year, my hatches are for elementary school kids, and where's the fun of a school hatch if it happens on a Saturday?!

However, I have a little silkie that's gone broody, so I think I'll give her 4-5 FBCM eggs Saturday.
Welcome! You can set +/- 2 days, so you can set today through Monday and they still count for the hatch!

I'm not going to be able to participate In the hatch-along after all. I'm pretty sure I have a marek's outbreak in my backyard flock

I sent one chicken to get a necropsy and am waiting for those results, now a second chicken is limping (my favorite too) I'm very sad and devastated that this is happening. I have never dealt with this virus before and I'm sure all my chicks and young pullets have been exposed to it. I can't imagine hatching knowing I have a virus running rampant. I have 30 6 week old chicks that I'm growing out for someone, I can't possibly sell them now, right? If anyone would has dealt with marek's in their flock who can give me advice pm me? I could really use your help right now. Thanks everyone!

Oh no! So sorry to hear this....Newly hatched chicks can be vaccinate under 36 hours ansd that should give them some protection from the virus.

Ha..I don't mind teasing, and I knew you were. I just had to write all of that down, not sure why, but, did wonder if I confused anyone further. :)

When I get my last box..photos. Man, I have a lot of eggs to set..but I bet there are some that have a whole lot more to set. It will be fun to see those that have the cabinet bators..I hope they send photos of the eggs in theirs. Won't be long now. Woot!

Okay random question!!! Where in your house do you all run your incubators?

I am trying to figure out which room to do. With 3 kids I can't have grabby hands that are in reach of it. My older two know better but my youngest would yank it down and throw eggs at the dog or something. I was thinking about keeping it in our bedroom on the dresser. Our room stays pretty constant. However, I am imagining that on hatch day(s) everyone will want to be gathered around... AND I am thinking the peeping will keep us awake those last days?? Hmmm just not sure and was curious where everyone else's was :)

Dresser might not be a good idea. All that opening and closing of drawers could cause problems.

Well my oldest son just called me to tell me that my second broody hen is hatching her chicks right now. He said there are 2 so far and she is mean!lol

Will you be hatching in the same incubator? I've never done a staggered hatch in the same incubator. But you can set them all together in one, and hatch in another.

Panic over.
Happy Chooks..... unfortunately it will all be in the same incubator which is what worries me... unless i transfer the hatching chicks into a homemade incubator for lock down. Which i suppose is entirely possible... if i knew what the heck i was doing to make one!!?! Yikes!! Any suggestions? My dad claimed that he used to stagger hatches all the time in that incubator (I dont doubt him, but i am one who does all the negative "what if's") He says it will be fine as long as they are properly marked..... maybe i should go figure out how to make a homemade incubator? ::Sigh::
