The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

Pics
I have 7 of 8 that went into lockdown. Not sure one will make it. Has a pretty soft tummy. :( These are the eggs that came with 2 broken eggs. The egg yolk and white spread alll over the other eggs. I just rinsed the good ones off and crossed my fingers. Her eggs were fertile. I did lose one right away..loose air cell. Then another did start, and end up with a blood ring..my biggest fear with these. But, I have babies!

I just rinsed them lightly, no rubbing.

I clean all my eggs with hydrogen peroxide before incubating them.I have it in spray bottle.I spray eggs then lightly wipe any dirty spots on egg

I got a little carried away in obtaining eggs for this hatch along, and even had to warm up my back up incubator. My daugter and will be setting
12 Seramas
8 BCM
6 NN
14 SFH
8 OE
7 EE

Due to work, my daughter and I set our eggs at 7:15 this morning...happy hatching everyone!

Yes I made incubator out of old toy wooden oven and I use parts from a hotdog rotisserie to make automatic egg Turner. It works really good very high hatch rate but only holds 14 eggs max.
Awesome chicken math solution. Mine is supposed to hold 20. But if eggs are smaller 22. After a bit here most of my hens will add to the number of chicks so a smaller incubator made sense for me. It has been tough cutting back though. :lau

Have you seen fertile eggs at your local store?

The two Trader Joe's in Albuquerque and the one up in Santa Fe carry the fertile eggs. The last time I had the fantastic hatch of TJ eggs (27 of 32) was from the Santa Fe store when I caught the eggs just 3 days off of packing date. I'm swinging by there today and -- :fl:fl -- I believe today is the day they restock the shelves with fresh(er) eggs. I'd love to have another TJ hen or two as they're stellar layers.

In the meantime, I have assorted mutt eggs ready to stash in the Brinsea that will all hatch out as either EE or Olive Eggers.

Ladies and Gentlemen, start your incubators!

These are just barnyard mix. She has blue EE's. An EE roo, and a New Hampshire roo. Legorns, that have been breed with the EE. That should give me some SBEL's..if I get a girl.. that had the EE.. for a dad. :fl
Barnyard mixes make great chickens!
