These are my 5 week old Buff Orpington chicks. The one in the foreground has always been a bit bigger and always had a redder comb and waddle skin. When I got them, I had assumed one was slightly older than the other. I really hope it is a hen, I have been making sure to handle them alot and they will sleep in my lap like they are in the picture. I'd hate to have to give it away but I am not allowed any roosters. I have no other observations other than the pink, larger comb. You can see how much smaller and yellow the other's comb is. Time will tell, but what do you think?

Yeah.....they're combs are so different

Hi,

Wait till they feather out. The one with rounded ends to the hackle feathers is a female.
The one with pointed ends to the hackle feathers is a male.
Best,
Karen

Given their age and the amount of pink and development in the comb/wattles of the one, yes, I think you have a cockerel on your hands.
