The BANTAM ORPINGTON Thread

Pics
Just wanted to share a new picture of my young Blue Bantam Orp pullet, coincidentally, her name is Blueberry

Here she is standing next to her best bud Boaz the Blue Bantam Plymouth Rock, they are about the same age.

Point of Lay in bantams really varies. Some will start at 16-20 weeks old. Others will take much longer. If hatched early and they mature as the days get longer, then they will normally start early. If hatched late and the days are getting shorter, they will start later. Some may not start till their next spring. You may have one pullet start and another wait. These are not a Hybrid commercial layer. They are Orpington Bantams that do what they want, when they want.

However, provide plenty of water, green grass and/or greens and a production feed. We prefer Nutrena All Flock for our layers. http://www.cargill.com/news/releases/2011/NA3040064.jsp

There is a BYC thread on this feed at https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/556806/nutrena-naturewise-all-flock

Hope this helps a little.

Beautiful birds!

My girls are 20 weeks. When should I expect to find eggs?

I think the usual rule of thumb is sometime between 18-23 weeks depending on the breed. these are my first bantams so im in trial and error stage with mine too!

I was just about to say that cockerel is very poor type... for an Orp! For a Plymouth roch he looks good. Hope you can locate a Black/Blue/Splash Orp male for her.

Looking for some hatching eggs. I'm a small time deal here. My chickens are my hobby and keep me sane after dealing with the public for 8-11 hrs a day 5-6-7 days a week. I would like some from sq stock if available i'm thinking of adding showing to my hobby. I use to show cattle when I was in high school and i loved the community of it. You can pm me if you'd like. Thanks
