THE CHEEPS ALMOST GOT ME!!!

Of course he wont smell them! Chickens don't smell. :)oops: Ok, I'm having trouble saying this with a straight face.):lau :gig

Chickens smell good. They smell like....chicken!

No lie, I am always smelling the back of my chooks' necks when I hold them. It's like that warm, delicious baby-head smell you get off a newborn. Even my DH--who thought chickens were dirty and smelly before I got them--has to admit they smell good. :)

Now, go back and get those peepers! :)

Oh my gosh... I went into Wilco (my local farm store) and I heard them calling me... "April" "April" "Pick me!" "Pick me!". I circled those babies for 30 minutes. I almost came home with some chicks. I just got chicks in November!!! These girls aren't laying yet and this by far is the longest wait ever and so why not? Why not more chicks? They are so cute! And fluffy! And I could hand pick the chicks (I got my others in the mail). It took every bit of willpower I had. I walked away guys. I WALKED AWAY! And then I went home and wanted to prank my husband. "Hey babe! So I got some new chicks today." And you know what he said?? "Oh, okay!" :idunnoHe didn't even care. So I told him I was kidding. And now I just want to drive back and get chicks. Someone slap me.
You are doing the right chicken math calculations! 1+1= :celebrate

My coop ( not including the run, just the roosting nesting area) is only big enough for 7-10 or so. I have 15 crammed in there, including a guinea hen. The poop piles up very quickly. And I had more, like 17 before some died! I am getting 3 polish from Ace, and hatching whatever I can! I'm doooooooomed! This is why I have free range birds! You should see all the birds in my run! I want another silkie and frizzle polish ontop of that too! We are adding another run for the stupid chickens ( Polish, bantam, etc), but what I really need is a barn. Then I can get peacocks and more guineas!
I don't think I will be able to resist the chicks at Ace. BuffLaced Polish, Goldlaced Polish, Black&White crested Polish, Black Cochins, White Cochins? Oh NO! Don't get me started on the ducks either! If farm stores carried Call ducklings( THEY SHOULD!!!) I would end up broke ( and living in a mud pit), because I'd buy every duckling in the brooder!!

That was a fun read to catch up on this morning!!! Chicken math got me from the start. We were going to build an all-in-one coop to fit 6-8 birds. Then my DH said “we’ll if I’m gonna build something, it might as well be big enough for when you expand. (He knows me so well).” So we did an 8x8 walk in shed style and then a covered run of 11x22.5. So... I ordered 16 right out the gate. Hahaha. One died, we picked up 2 around 9 weeks. Now I’m at 17 and we sectioned off a part of our yard for them. I feel like I have room for sure. All of my girls fit on one roost right now. And I have a whole second bar in there they barely touch. So yeah, totally could do more. BUT, I’m half tempted to try incubating and hatching my own! How fun would that be? I have 3 kids who would love to watch that process! And maybe I could sell the chicks or keep 2 or so? Pft.

Come get us April, please peep, peep, peep, come get us! We are cute and lovable, we promise to love you, peep, peep, cockle doodle, peep!
Hahahahahahah!!!!!! That’s so funny! I got lucky with all pullets from my first batch. It would happen that I’d go get 4 chicks and I’d get a roo in there.

have fun with those Polish chickens, I sure do.... Crazy fuzzheads!:barnie:)

OMG, this is a mad house... I have 28 eggs is the incubator that are going to hatch on monday and i am already saving up eggs again for putting in on wednesday or so (i have to have the time to clean the incubator, otherwise i would put them in on monday already) now i just have to tell my BF that we're incubating more eggs...

Well, in my defence, i have orders for chicks coming from everywhere, so it's not like we have to keep them. But it's sure nice to have a continuous flow of chicks around i guess... It's my first time incubating and i'm already hooked... :barnie
How are you selling them? Just by word of mouth? This sounds fun to me!

How many house chickens could your house fit??!!! Our house is 4000 square feet........maybe I should be buying chickens diapers in bulk! That would solve my problem of being maxed out in the coop! :yesss:
Oh. My. Goodness. This is dangerous talk. Sister - we would have to make the chicken diapers and buy feminine products in bulk from Costco. Then check ourselves into rehab.
