The chickens are eating the goat alive

And this is why up until now I've remained a lurker....even on a CHICKEN forum are there e-fights.

But I'm going to add my two cents anyways.

1) Chickens are savages. It shouldn't matter if one is pecking or they all attack and go at it. The point is, if they're pecking your goat, you need to pen the bloody thing up. Looking to see who's the worst of it is prolonging the injury. For no real reason that I can see.

2) This whole thing started over a question of why the goat wasn't removed from the yard/field whatever at the beginning. Outside of an exclamation point in the sentence no one said anything at all about your animal husbandry skills. You went on the defensive rather quickly. For no apparent reason and fueled the fire for this whole kerfuffle.

3) Can't everyone just agree to disagree.

Good grief. Just separate them

Alicia that may be the best suggestion in this whole thread!

They did ask for other suggestions...

valsey--you came on here for advice and that's what people have given you. Yes, it is quite disturbing to hear you say that this is a daily ongoing ritual. But YOU said it. In your opening statement, it almost sounded comical-as in "here's a good one - and I cannot make this stuff up" until I read further down to find that this is a serious issue. There are over 50 some thousand members on here by now--seriously, there will be comments that we don't want to hear...it's a fact. But you asked for advice...people also give their opinions here. It is what it is. There's no need to take such offense...although you have. There's a problem here and we're all envisioning a goat laying there thinking "what's the point of running? They're just gonna do it again tomorrow." and you're standing there saying "ok, here's a good one" It's upsetting. It's not good...by any means, and I personally take it offensive that you're not more seriously concerned with your goat. I can see that you're concerned, but it doesn't seem like you're concerned enough to seperate them.

She doesn't like it...she's probably just tired of it and it hurts too "freakin" bad! I ripped my toenail completely off not long ago and a simple blade of grass brought me to my knees in tears. It doesn't matter if the goat is 200 lbs. it's constant picking, pain, and agony. You asked for ideas, they've been given. Suck it up. It is what it is...

Now this makes a lot of sense. ALso, not all animals show their pain.

I've had a cat with a claw so badly infected it went gangrenous and smelled like rotting flesh, yet the cat never once winced or limped or anything. Another time (and another cat) puss walked over the stovetop while the element was on and got badly burnt paws, and again there was no limping or yelping or anything. Just because an animal doesn't fight back, walk away or moan in pain doesn't necessarily mean it's not experiencing pain or suffering.

(Sorry for all teh cat analogies - I've never owned a goat).

This stuff is da bomb!!!
It works great, doesn't fly all over you like Blu-Kote does and I've only ever had to apply it twice at the most.
I used to end up with purple spots on face, neck, hands and arms til I found this stuff! Great to keep in your chicken emergency kits!!!

Hi Chickann!

Some of us are passionate about the well being and care of animals. When somebody posts "The chickens are eating the goat alive" and asks for help. Well, I think many of us feel obliged to help. As in, help the animal. Nobody wants to "win" an argument. I think most of us are concerned for the welfare of the goat. Period.

How many chickens do you have Chickann?
