Announcement The Coop Page / Article Rating & Review Project!

Pics
As far as categories go, I just realized there is a big difference between how people wrote their articles:

Some are detailed TUTORIALS, with step by step progress and instructions of the build... which seems to be how we're rating them.

But many others are more like a TOUR of their already existing coop... which I like just as much. I don't really want to give them a poor rating because they didn't give instructions on how to build it. Sometimes it's just nice to look at other people's pretty coops and not judge harshly because it's lacking in the "How To" department.

Just a thought...

I can see how making categories can be very tricky. I have noticed in all my browsing throughout the years, some people have posted their coop articles twice... once in small (for example) and once in medium. I imagine because it could pass for either.
So would there be a way to incorporate a search that would include each coop article in... say... several categories that it applies to?

There shouldn't be too many that have duplicate articles in different categories.
Report them if you see it again, please.

Do you happen to have a link to the ones you did see?

I agree it's nice to see the nice pictures but Nifty said to not rate just based on the pictures. Of course if it's helpful pictures that's a bonus!

Yes, I agree on all that as well.
But what about the people who have written articles for the sake of an ARTICLE... and it's about their coop so they put it in the coop section. It's a really beautiful coop and they're proud of it and have tons of praising comments... why do we have to criticize it because it's not a TUTORIAL?

Maybe.... just maybe... tutorials should have their own categories and THOSE are the ones that should be rated on their helpfulness?

I know all these opinions are complicating everything... but a new person looking at a pretty coop page might get intimidated by seeing a low star rating at the top of the page before scrolling down to read the reviews... and many of those reviews don't even have a reason for how it was rated.

That's the beauty of having multiple people give multiple ratings... it's often subjective.

Not everyone even knows about BYC when building their coops. So if someone after-the-fact, took a ton of coop pics write up information about what they did, what worked, what didn't, etc., I'd be fine with someone giving the coop a 4 or 5 based on their opinion of the coop page.

some people have posted their coop articles twice... once in small (for example) and once in medium.
If you see examples of that, please let us know. We definitely don't want duplicates.

Kinda... we could use the "tags", like this one: https://www.backyardchickens.com/tags/incubator/

... and then people could search the tags: https://www.backyardchickens.com/tags/
