The Duck Thread

My trio of project Rouens have decided that any hen house that where the coop door is left open is fair game lol.

just got 8 baby ducks - they are awful scared of me, which you would expect but I'm hoping to let them free range when they get older and am wondering how they will come to me if they are scared - is there something they like to eat better than grain that will make them come?

Peas. Peas are duck crack. My ducks would crawl over broken glass for peas. It's hilarious.

When they're little babies, you might need to smoosh the peas to make it so they can eat them. They'll also need chick grit so they can properly digest them.

Use frozen (thawed) peas, or fresh cooked peas (cooled). Don't give them canned peas, the sodium content is way too high.

I am just starting out with 3 pekin ducks and 4 turkins and 3 buff orpingtons. They are 3 weeks old. I was hoping to house the ducks with the chickens. I have a 3 nest-box coop. Any advice? Will this work? Do I need a nest box for the ducks. I'm thinking I have 2 female ducks and 1 drake.

AmyJo I have raised my ducks and chicks together from brooder to coop, the ducks will make a nest of their own ya give em some straw or something to do it as they normally do that on the ground.

Note: Not sure if this advice will hold up if you have older chickens though as I am still fairly new to both

Meal worms, dried ones are easier. How much my ducks love them is indescribable. They aren't to fond of peas

My ducks dont care for peas, or bananas either. The chickens however LOVE bananas.

My ducks didn't care for bananas either, but they love the peas! Like kaessa's, I believe they would run over broken glass for them too. Cheerios is their second favorite treat.
