Ah, car repairs, yuck.

I'm uploading a video about internal laying and other reproductive malfunctions of hens. It will take awhile, I think, but I included several photos of necropsy results of hens over the years (with graphic warning for the squeamish).

When I was looking up what to do for my egg bound girl I saw some pretty crazy necropsy pics of internal laying and egg bound hens. I'm hoping mine won't continue having problems. She's my sons and he would be devastated if she didn't make it. I've been keeping her cage covered a lot during the day to keep her from laying again while things heal. She has more energy and is eating and drinking.

At least with egg binding, you can usually "encourage" the stuck egg to come out. That can happen if an egg is just extra large compared to the hen's usual size, oddly shaped, strangely positioned, etc. Internal laying is a death sentence.

Went to pick up my truck from the mechanic. Got a couple miles from his place, and began having the same problem. Took it back. He's very aware it's not fixed yet.

Thanks for the very informative video. The last few days I've learned so much more about hen reproductive health than I ever expected to need to know.

I clicked on one of the threads regarding a hen that quit setting on her nest after 22 days, and only hatched out 2 chicks. One of the people on there was a bit vocal about calling it the equivalent of abortion, and yes, they were totally against abortion. I commented that they were uninformed about chickens, and it plainly showed. That they should learn a bit more before posting ignorant comments like that. Normally I try to be very tolerant, but it's been one of those days.

She responded that the reason she was on here, was to learn. Even though, yes it was true, she knew nothing about the topic, I should not have pointed it out. Maybe people are doing it different nowadays, but when I was interested in learning something, and had no idea on a topic, I would remain silent, and study the answers of those that had some knowledge. Only after having learned something, would I offer my 2 cents.

I just took a look at that. A mother getting up to take care of the babies she already has so that they don't die and leaving unhatched eggs that are either already dead or won't hatch by the time her babies need food and water is an abortion? The hen should sacrifice her other offspring for ones that might not even hatch in this person's eyes apparently.

I hope that person doesn't have a rooster then because by her logic she'd be killing baby chicks every time she ate eggs.
