The Fuzzy-Butt Thundering herd of Wisco

Bad news guys...

https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=386732

I really hope Little Roo doesnt turn out like they say theres did. It would break my heart if he had to be killed. I was really hoping for a nice roo, and I was thinking that him and his mean ness towards the girls was all part of the pecking order battle. Is it? This thread would be ruined if the star of the story died!

dont worry, with such a good owner like you no chicken would get THAT mean!

I do not have a roo and my girls are now 17 weeks old. They had very minor "shows" toward each other as young chicks to establish the pecking order and have been extremely social and get along very well with each other. The funny thing is my Blue Laced Red Wynadotte, Hyacinth, who has an awful cross beak is the queen of the flock! She holds her head higher and when folks come by they say "oh, is that the rooster?" I have to tell them she is a she for sure but she occasionally acts a bit more rooish as that is normal in an all girl flock. That fact helps her get plenty of the moist mash daily which keeps her crop nice and full.

Every flock is different. Roos typically keep peace within the flock which is what Hyacinth has done. Its great as they stay happy, calm and so does the flock tender, me!

Hyacinth's cross beak at 14 weeks of age:

Well thank you, but I've found that no matter how nice you are to a roo, they can still turn wicked. I was just watching them and he completely flipped on poor Pacobean

Now whenever he gets within five inches of one of the girls, they run. Fast. I hope this phase passes.

I myself have only pullets, but I've heard stories of nice and mean roos. And neutral ones.

And I remember reading a post a few months ago saying that roos mature faster than hens.

gosh thats sad and i feel bad for you but i came hear hopeing to read more about the adventures of The Fuzzy-Butt Thundering heard of Wisco and i miss reading about them

i hope things get better!

Anyhoo, I have good news!
The Fuzzy-Butt Thundering herd of Wisco will soon have a new home! We finally found a design that we like and wasnt too fancy or expensive. It is like a chicken tractor, if you know what that is. I will post pictures later. We had the frame all done a day ago, then last night I spent the night at a friends. Today I came home and all we have left to do is one square of chain link mesh thingy, the siding, and the window! By tonight the Fuzzy Butts will have a new place to call home! I heard that to move chickens into a new place, you have to keep them in a new coop for three days. Am I right on this? Anyone have any advice?
Update on the Ms. Prissy conflict:
As my dad, my brother and me were working on the new coop yesterday, we began to bicker yet again about my poor little RIR. He started to ask my opinion on more stupid names. Just stupid name after stupid name. I told him to shut up and just quit trying cause hes never gonna actually think of a good one. It may sound mean, but he needs to open his eyes and realize I am never gonna give this up. Ha.

My new favorite song is September by Daughtry. Give it a listen.

Much love from the Fuzzy-Butts

I am super happy that this whole thing is over and done with. Now we are getting 40 "meat birds" (cornish cross) on Thursday. They will be living in my babies old home. Sure, they are cute as chickies, but once they grow older, I cannot wait for them to move into our freezer. They taste darn good too.

Fuzzy-Butts say hello
