The Great Egg Shipping Experiment!

Has anyone here heard that Bresse hatch better after shipping than most other breeds? Just curious. Someone who sent me 9 eggs said that had been her experience, I moved 7 to the hatcher, and this morning 1 had hatched and 3 others were pipped - today is Day 21.
Bresse hatched very will for me, but hey only came from Lodi to Woodland-- We are very close so they went by truck.

I always worry until the eggs get to their destination.

I have been following this thread also I have never hatch shipped eggs before kinda scarey to say the least, I have hatch my own eggs easter eggers cross black australorp in my little brinsea mini advance with no problems.

I wanted black copper marans so I started looking on this site found Brian from the breeder section and order my 7 eggs, then I found this thread by wisher 1000 then I had more questions then answers so I read and read and read until I have eyes have cross.

What I have learn is the 1. Black copper marans are sometimes late hatchers
2. let the eggs rest 12 hrs pointed side down
3. no turning for 5 days
4. no cooling for 7 days and then for 2hrs
5. no or little water until lockdown
6. sit on hands (hard part)

Is there anything else I have miss, I do have one question what to set the turner for. I don't remember reading that.

I want to thank all of you for your input I have learn so much and still learning.

A little about me my name is Penny, I live in swamps of Mississippi always humid here, right across the state line of Alabama but
unlike Wisher 1000 we are War Eagle people, only because we put our son thur Auburns rotc program, before that we were Alabama and still are until they played each other. Only time I fear for my life was when we live in Knxoville Tn, and my husband drove a red and white Bama truck in UT country.

I appreciate all your help and if there anything I have forgotten please let me know, my eggs should arrive this week.

UPDATE!!!! On 4/4 my 7 eggs arrive from Brian they were wrapped in bubble wrap and put in a box with shreaded paper box arrive look perfect, inside 2 eggs were broken, set for 24hrs, set the eggs in bator 100.1 degrees , turn 6 hrs later started turning , fill the one side with water, cooling 60 mins a day, candle on day 8th couldn't tell much one look clear, candle again on the 14th day pull the clear one no development the other 4 look ok, lock down 4/23 (day 3) turning stop and cooling down, both side of pot was fill . 2 peeps at 4/24 one hatch 10:00 am on the 25th, 3 other peep on the 25, and hatch that day, the first one to peep had still not hatch after the last hatch at 11:45 p.m. that one had peep at the narrow end with no progress, I help him out at midnight on it was completely backward, as of this morning he is still a little weak (still in bator) but seems ok chripping and resting.

my next eggs same breed came from a hatchery in IL. they arrive 4/16 they were shipped in a egg carton narrow end pointed down with paper towels place in between eggs and on top and carton tape shut and roll up newspaper paper stuff in box all those eggs (8) arrive un broken and candle look good, Only thing I did different with these eggs is I started turning and cooling on the first day. I am not going to candle these eggs until day 14th.

The first shipment was a 100 percent hatch rate, the second shipment waiting to see.

You are so lucky. After my discussion with Brenda today I am disgusted. I found out the man I got many of my eggs from through e-bay is a scammer and he only sells infertile eggs, he also steals them from neighbors. This is why it took so long for him to ship them to me. He has even had the police at his home multiple times for scamming folks. He is from right here in NC as well, and been on the news multiple times already. So anyways that means now I may be lucky to get about 5 eggs out of the 60 in my incubator to hatch. The eggs the lady sent me from Texas it took 11 days for them to be delivered so they most likely wont be good. Still going to hope and pray and think positive. Maybe I will get lucky and will get a few miracles to happen.
sellers like that should be named

I had a similar thing happen with an eBay seller....supposed to be Ameracauna eggs they were EE could tell by egg color, only 2 developed at all but quit that shipment happened to have some duck eggs that were all broke so USPS paid my claim I had told the seller right when they got here they offered to replace for just shipping and a couple dollars not having really looked to closely at the chicken eggs (my husband unpacked) I agreed and paid for a second batch of duds...they were infertile i opened one to see and but the rest in just in case....I sell eggs and swap eggs but only up to 3 days old..I have included some 4 day old eggs as extra's... but at 5 days they go in my incubator or get fed to the chickens.. I think it is horrible some people are trying to turn a profit without considering what they are doing to others

He has been kicked off e-bay already otherwise I would have told everyone his name. Lucky for every ones sake he did get banned from ever selling through them again. Brenda and her face book group kept at e-bay about him. And even by the sound of it sent them a video clip of the news report. The man wont be selling any time soon. Plus he is still behind bars, I guess he didn't have the bail to get out.

Yeah I know. This is why I try and only sell 1 dozen eggs to a time on e-bay so I know people are getting the freshest possible eggs. We eat any eggs that are more then 2 days old. Occasionally I put in a few extra eggs, and that will be from the day before if I have any that haven't been sent out yet. However we do have enough chickens to make more then 2 dozen hatching eggs per day, the issue is that many folks around here want them, so I have to do mostly pre orders, and do my e-bay sales only when I know I will have extras at the end of that day. Some folks just don't care.

When I ship my eggs out I have to take extra special care in making sure they are packed so they wont get crushed, when I find out that someone at the postal service did smash a bunch I know they really had to have used a sledge hammer or something to do it. I am looking at putting in a plastic container in the middle of big boxes. This will stop anything from coming down on top of the boxes. I will be testing it later this year when things slow down here.
