No they won't. Try cajoling most of today's teenagers off the couch or from in front of the computer, to take out the trash, wash the car, wash the dishes, all because it's good for their soul.

If there's not bribe money or objects tied to it, it ain't happening.
The teens will be a challenge. I have one! Teens who are living on their own in the communal arrangement need to do their part or leave. If they are living with their parent or parents, the adults will have to carry the weight of the child.

Royd, it works perfectly well for many groups, all you need are like minded people. Most people feel that the only alternative we have is the system that we have currently. But thats really not the case. Besides, what do anecdotal observations of some people's poorly parented spoiled kids have to do with it? Not much if you ask me. Just bad parenting, and you find that everywhere in the kids of conservatives and liberals and every group in between. LOL

I live in a rural and poverty stricken factory based town. Yes there are poor obese people. I fully support community gardens, and other self sustaining - healthy living - community based food security programs for low income people. I want to turn a vacant juvenile detention center on 100 acres into housing for the low or no income. It will have a garden, poultry and other livestock for food security and independence. The inhabitants can keep it going with a little help. People just need a start in the right direction, some hope.

I believe back in the 30's they called that a work camp. Dawn to dusk, three squares and a cot...What more could a man ask for.

Commune (isem) liveing works great on a small scale. Like a family, several family's or even a small town. Any bigger than that an it falls apart. Peoples ability's are no longer exploited an everyone's needs are no longer covered equally.

X2 - Thats what I mean about spoiled, you see these kids that won't do anything, its because they know they will be supported no matter what. Well, they will grow up and learn it eventually if no one feeds them! LOL

I agree, it works small scale. Thats why most groups break up and form smaller colonies when they get too big.

How is low income housing with access to a community garden a work camp?

I was talking about small scale communal living. I reallllllly want to do this with the vacant juvenile detention center. Royd, if people don't want to do what needs to be done in the community, then they need to find another path for their lives. The community will need people to cook, clean, perform maintenance, childcare, take care of the animals and garden....if they want to pay rent, they are free from much of the communal work. The community will need money too, so independent work is very helpful! I only want those who want the arrangement to succeed to live in it. I think the housing is made for about 100 people.

But you miss the fault in all of the socialist thinking...Wouldn't it be wonderful if we all woke with a sunny dispostion to the first crow of the cock, bounced out of the house, before the first cup of coffee, milkpail in hand, to give Ol' Bess a 15 minute massage.

The problem is, that night person, who just isn't going to get with the Rebecca Sunnybrook program for happy living. They either get harrassed, punished or banished.
