I was talking about small scale communal living. I reallllllly want to do this with the vacant juvenile detention center. Royd, if people don't want to do what needs to be done in the community, then they need to find another path for their lives. The community will need people to cook, clean, perform maintenance, childcare, take care of the animals and garden....if they want to pay rent, they are free from much of the communal work. The community will need money too, so independent work is very helpful! I only want those who want the arrangement to succeed to live in it. I think the housing is made for about 100 people.
There's no reason it couldn't work. There are examples of well run community gardens (some with livestock) in many cities. As long as you do your research and follow one of those examples of how to run a sucessfull garden, it should work perfectly! Waayyy to go, and good example of trying to uplift your community by giving access and opportunity to those who otherwise would not have a chance to garde. you know, I have a friend who lives in low income housing, and she has many times told me she wished that she could garden and grow some of her families food, but the most she can do on her patio is a tomato plant in the corner, and they are not allowed to set things on the rails or hang planters or pots. Its too bad, because the desire is there.
