I do not care what you think about me. I didn't see your repsonse to my post before I posted about your hateful comments about Royd. Yes, I read the very first post he began this thread with, but I did not read through 42 pages before posting my personal opinion on providing socialized healthcare to the American people.

You were hateful and nasty, period. I feel sorry for you, honestly!

I'm not usually one to respond to angry posts, but here's to my first!

Remember, life is short. Each day is a blessing and we are not promised tomorrow. I hope you learn to play nicely with others. The best thing about being an American is that we are all free to express our opinions!

I suggest we all refrain from attacking each other and stick to the topic or this thread will be closed. Sprinkles, Royd and Cupman have a fun relationship where they both go back and forth overe the issues. While I admire your attempt to stick up for Royd, the truth is is that he and Cupman are in thier element and I think enjoying every minute of thier banter with one another - its the way thier relationship works.

Well I am sorry you felt my posts were hateful and negative. I sometimes try to jab it to the other party without violating BYC rules(and sometimes I do, sadly). Royd is king of that, trust me. Probably the only thing about him I find amusing. I felt as though my comments were equal, not being a jerk. I understand it's a lot easier to dislike the people with different opinions.. but as you said "The best thing about being an American is that we are all free to express our opinions!." I was trying to do that, as six generations after Royd, but not in mean-spirited manner.

Wow. Some people are pretty nasty on here. Goodness!

I haven't read Royd's posts, but was he really THAT bad to require such a personal attack?
It's ok. I'm not a thin skinned whiner, who runs to the mods at every insult and possible infraction of the rules. I'm sure that if Cupman and I met in the Ho National Forest, between us we could start a fire and drink a beer, and agree to disagree.

Oh, BTW, thanks for standing between me and my supposed enemy, like a good soldier.

The fact that women are not required to sign up for the draft is sexist against males. Either everyone signs up for the draft or no one signs up for the draft. And yes I would say that having to sign up for the draft is part of a Woman's right.
Israel tried to put women in combat and found out it does not work for several reasons.

Do we not care for America's children and elderly? Let's just speak hypothetically here and say the draft is once again implemented. If we draft both men and women we would be leaving dependent's behind. Who to care for them? Sounds like a complicated Family Care Plan to me. That's just from a mother's perspective. Then there are the soldiers...a masculine man naturally will defend his female counterpart before his male counterpart. It is nature. It's sad to me that we no longer celebrate the differences between a man and a woman. We are different, y'all know that, right?

I'm talking about women in COMBAT positions, not other areas of military.

Personally I would much rather stand safely behind a 100% male Army in combat than a 50% male and 50% female Army in combat.

Well, I'm off to wash my husband's clothes, feed my family, change diapers and kiss boo boo's.

Ah. Thank you for the heads up.

It sounds like you are saying females are weaker than males and males are naturally aggressive and are more than willing to fight and die.

I have heard of this (issue of men and women in combat) and it is true. Most likely it is the result of ingrained gender role stereotyping, which is very difficult for people to overcome, so until there is an alternative gender narrative (which is a slow process) this will be a problem. However, I will tell you that curent research supports that men and women are more alike than different. In fact you would find more variation within the same gender that are more significant than between the genders. So what that really means is that individuals are different, but gender is a relatively insignificant factor when it comes to those differences. Moreso what differences there are, are more linked to individual cultural norms when it comes to gender roles and what we have been socialized to believe are gender differences. So of course, if you think about it the current research about men and women in combat actually shows how ingrained these norms are in the individual.

heres a little summary of the concepts: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/aug/15/girls-boys-think-same-way

North Korea has male/female military. It's sadly the only strong thing about that country. They make the males/females shave their heads so combatants have a harder time telling the difference. I would never want my wife, girlfriend, sister, whatever to fight in a war.. but who really wants their family to go to war? I mean no offense to military families and members, you guys are great.. but it's always going to be scary.. even if we are fighting countries that we deem "uncivilized."

About the beer, Royd, I could do that. I just am afraid of your reaction when I pop the top of an imported brand

Totally off topic here...

I'm pretty liberal, as most of you here know. That being said; I love the idea of a draft, of mandatory national service for everyone. I like the idea of contientious objectors doing service in national parks, nursing homes, shelters etc. I love the idea of a military that is made up of everyone's children. Why? Because then everyone in this country has a real stake in how and where our military is deployed. The military is less likely to be sent out on the whim of a particular administration if everyone's kid is involved. It also give everyone a stake in voting. It gives young people experience beyond themselves, with people who may be very different from who they are. Makes national service to part of everyone's psyche. And yes I think both males and females should be involved.

And for a final note, I am a parent.

I would say that it's far deeper than that...It's a DNA thing. I don't have to go any farther than the yard and watch the chickens. Roosters have a job. They are the watchers and the wary ones, Hens are the protectors of the little ones.....Just the other day, a hen with a single chick had decided it was time to move to the tree. The chick couldn't figure it out, so I decided to help it...The hen came out of that tree so fast, that I abandonned my mission.
